I would welcome the end of GitHub monopoly. Not because of the Open Source and Microsoft-related matters, but for one thing: I believe that GitHub development workflow, the way you create pull-request and perform reviews, the way you visualize the process and organize the CI and test infrastructure around it, is ineffective.

As a monopoly, GitHub keeps promoting this workflow. And we end up with a self-enforcing circle: new developers learn it because everyone does it, and then everyone is doing it because that's what new developers learn.

If only people weren't migrating to the exact GitHub clones..

Let's say, I want to do a research on adoption of continuous integration and generally development practices in the small and big software development companies.

The naive approach would be: just choose a random company, call them and ask if they like to let me in and allow me to talk to their engineers and measure their performance and so on.. That could be fun.

But to do it properly I would need to get some academic background, learn the methodology, get an academic umbrella and maybe find a project to join.

Do you know any institutions performing this kind of research? How people get there? Which education is required?

I am a big fan of Ansible, like really huge fan, but this is smth which kills your engagement with the project right from the start.

The issue is not with the Docker in this case, the issue is with lack of the proper step by step manual install guide, which works in both ways: it gives you the flexibility of doing things your way, and it also gives you the introduction into the architecture of the project.

Installation guide is the real face of your project, not those fancy screenshots and logos and branding and whatever your marketing department works on.

Skiing is overrated.

20 hairpin turns of a perfectly white road, 8 km distance and 800 m elevation. And there is no one there, only you, the mountain and the white and sunny silence... Winter hiking in Alps is awesome.

Me as Fedora Ambassador:

visitor: what are the advantages of using Fedora on Raspberry PI?
me: there are no advantages, only challenges. None of the standard tutorials works, none of the libraries is supported. To use GPIO in Fedora I wrote the whole new library from scratch, nd to enable PWM I had to recompile and patch the device tree.
visitor: sounds like a lot of fun, i'll definitely switch to Fedora then!

This is how you get new Fedorians :)
