Take a look at the amazing animations done by Alan Becker. He is the son of Bob, a friend of mine in Ohio, who is also an artist. What a wonderful skill! Alan would love to do freelance Flash animations for people so contact him at his website alanbecker.net

Ah... the American jest is lost on Europe :)

As you may not know, there is an argument about the name "Redskins". It is believed by some to be derogatory, or an insult to Native Americans.

There is strong political pressure, even from the President of the USA to force the team to change their name to accommodate those who hold these opinions about the name and the corresponding logo (the face of a native person). So in an effort to be accommodating, it is suggested here to change the logo to a redskin potato.

Of course, as is always the case, explained humor is no longer humorous :)

There are times when you want to live large and think of how you can make an impact on the whole world.

There are other times when it seems right to live small. I like these dwellings that use space well - and can be placed anywhere!

Very cool; my girl friend has become interested in these little guys. I have to say, it's pretty attractive sometimes.

Liberty in North Korea - a request

I am passing along a request of my daughter, Grace (20). She is an officer of a college affiliate of the Liberty In North Korea (LINK) group. They focus on creating awareness of the problems in North Korea and of those who seek to escape that land for a better life elsewhere.

She has taken on a challenge of fundraising $3000 so they can sponsor one person out of North Korea through China to the South and then back into South Korea. The money they raise will be matched by another anonymous foundation up to $50,000.

If you think this is a worthy cause, please consider helping her reach her goal and assist someone in North Korea reach freedom. You can make a donation here:

http://fundraise.libertyinnorthkorea.org/gracepayer

Thank you for giving time (and hopefully a donation) to consider this. I'm very proud of Grace. She is a  student at the University of Minnesota in an Honors program with a double major in political science and global studies

What do fame, wealth and lots of sex bring? Exactly the opposite of what you think.

Thoughtful content on 'how ought we live our lives'

Summary: Reinhold Niebuhr summed up the confrontation, the fully lived Adam I and Adam II life, this way: "Nothing that is worth doing can be achieved in our lifetime; therefore we must be saved by hope. Nothing which is true or beautiful or good makes complete sense in any immediate context of history; therefore we must be saved by faith. Nothing we do, however virtuous, can be accomplished alone; therefore we must be saved by love. No virtuous act is quite as virtuous from the standpoint of our friend or foe as from our own standpoint. Therefore we must be saved by that final form of love, which is forgiveness.”

Within each of us are two selves, suggests David Brooks in this meditative short talk: the self who craves success, who builds a résumé, and the self who seeks connection, community, love -- the values that make for a great eulogy. (Joseph Soloveitchik has called these selves "Adam I" and "Adam II.") Brooks asks: Can we balance these two selves?

This woman is amazing.

"I gathered my courage to fight back. I promised myself that this is not my last day here," she told the paper.
Kamla Devi, 56, says she battled with the animal for half an hour after it attacked her while she was tending her fields

Conveying information is done in a manner unique to the generation in which you developed your skills. This article gives a sense of how Millennials (think under 35) integrate the content of marketing messages they get via the Internet. Their mindset is quite different from Boomers and those in between. It is easy to forget that point. This has instructional value beyond Internet marketing.

Millennials are the heart and soul of the Internet, because, unlike prior generations, they grew up with it. Getting their attention online can be tough.

Just another example of how the universe just happened to exist. There is no design or underlying principle or pattern guiding all things. . . . . . . [NOT!]

"Government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the Earth." - Abraham Lincoln

We clearly live in an era of cognitive dissonance.
