NGC 7497 is a galaxy located at a distance of 59 million light years from Earth. In this image, the galaxy is apparently surrounded by a beautiful and faint cloud. However, the nebulae are actually about 60,000 times closer to us than the galaxies, located in the confines of our own galaxy, the Milky Way. The cloudiness shown in this image is part of the MBM 54 molecular cloud. This cloud is located about 900 light years away from our solar system, in the outer regions of our galaxy. This type of molecular clouds are found in the high galactic latitudes, areas of the sky far away from the plane of the Milky Way. They are often called galactic cirrus clouds or more commonly "integrated flow nebulae" (IFN). These clouds are very weak and quite difficult to photograph.

Using the Very Large Telescope of ESO interferometer (VLTI), Olivier Chesneau of the French Riviera Observatory, Nice, France, and an international team of collaborators have found that the supergiant yellow star HR 5171 A is absolutely enormous, 1300 times the diameter Of the Sun and much larger than expected. This makes it the largest yellow star known. It is also among the ten largest known stars, 50% larger than the famous red supergiant Betelgeuse, and about a million times brighter than the Sun. Astronomers made use of a technique called interferometry to combine light collected from multiple individual telescopes, effectively creating a giant telescope up to 140 meters in size. Yellow hypergigantes are very rare, only a little more than a dozen are known in our galaxy, the best known example being Rho Cassiopeiae. They are among the biggest and brightest stars known and are at a stage of their lives in which they are unstable and change rapidly. Due to this instability, the yellow hypergigantes also expel the material towards the outside, forming a great atmosphere that extends around the star.

Despite its great distance, almost 12,000 light years from Earth, the object can be seen with the naked eye by the insightful.
