Yes. The red streak is often found in the centre of maple trees. Typically does not extend more than a few inches even in the largest specimens. Of course exemptions are evident.

+Jon Simmo I figure if someone wants thier paddle burned an they wanna use it they better not want a shading job. somthing real dark otherwise it would fade wouldnt it?

Ah, cool. I thought you had just burned over the grain structure to highlight it, something I have done before now. Looks good either way. :)

A buddy of mine started hacking away at a hunk of wood and i offered to polish it up for him. He was appreciative of the results.

Has anyone ever tried sealing a burn with beeswax or using it as a... i dunno... stain or sumthing?
on second thought i think ill just try it on a fool around piece i got going on.. cud b interestin...

So far the best method I have is sand to 400grit, stain if desired, varnish, sand with a worn off 400, varnish, polish that layer with cardboard then varnish and polish again. I've done that on all the regular pieces I've done barring the beeswax thing. I melted that on with my burner and it seemed to work rather well
