The current forecast for Furnace Creek, Death Valley, CA is 53C.  That's where the world's record was set, (56.7C July 10, 1913 -- almost exactly 100 years ago), is only 3.7 degrees less.

I've been predicting that temperature predictions would all fall short and have been right the past few days.  So I'm watching for the old record to be broken today or tomorrow.

While planning my weekend on Google Maps, I noticed a place called a "dinning room", and submitted a correction.  Then I did a search and found that the misspelling "dinning" is really common.  I got hundreds of hits of "fine dinning" or "it was the worst dinning experience I've ever had".  Dinning is a valid word, so spell checkers accept it, but it is such a rarely used word, I doubt that is what they meant.

It took me 30 minutes to drive 35 miles from San Ramon to San Jose, then 60 minutes to drive the last 5 miles to my house yesterday.  Huge traffic jam from brushfires.

Big birds seem to be driven out of the hills by the heat.  There is a hawk making a big racket outside my apartment.  Yesterday, I saw two wild(?) turkeys walking along the side of busy Alcosta Rd.
