It is time to start thinking about back-to-school. While the little ones are catching up on their summer reading and you’re shopping for supplies, don’t forget to make an appointment to have your child’s teeth cleaned. Start the school year off fresh and keep preventative care on your schedule.

Get your child ready for Kindergarten.
Be sure to get your little one’s teeth cleaned and examined before they start school! Here are a few ways to help talk with your small children about their teeth:
1. Read “The Tooth Book” by Dr. Seuss,
2. Write a letter to the tooth fairy and
3. “paint” with a toothbrush while talking about the importance of brushing.

Dr. Sheehan will be attending the NH Dental Society Annual Meeting which runs from May 17-19 in Meredith, NH. This year’s event features an educational component that deals with the opioid crisis. Dr. Harold L. Crossley, D.D.S, M.S. will discuss the impact of recent resolutions by the American Dental Association on dental care for patients who are/or have been chemically dependent. This is just one of the topics that will be covered during the meeting, all of which are designed to help us improve the quality of care we provide our patients.

Spring has finally arrived and with it allergy season. While your dental health may not be the first thing you think of, allergies, likely hay fever, can have a negative impact on your teeth and gums. If you experience tooth pain, along with your allergy symptoms, it is likely your maxillary sinuses, located just above your mouth. When pressure builds in these sinuses they can push down on your upper molars. If the pain goes away after taking an antihistamine, it was like caused by your allergy and not another issue, like decay.

People who suffer from allergies often experience dry mouth. This condition can actually increase your chances of getting cavities, gum disease or bad breath. Sore throats also result from allergies and no amount of brushing will likely help.

Here are some tips for dealing with allergies and maintaining good oral health:

- Stay hydrated
- Gargle with salt water
- Keep brushing and flossing
- Treat your allergies
- Talk to your dentist

Our Office Manager, Carolyn Thomas and Front Desk/Patient Coordinator, Channon Boulanger are the best! Their importance to our practice is undeniable and we appreciate everything they do.
