Women were pivotal in this year's election, and Lisa Belkin shares some of what has changed in how women vote and influence the national dialogue.

Not only just women, but Latinos, blacks, gays, people with disabilities, the unemployed, the uninsured (the tired, the poor, the huddled masses) ... everyone but angry white guys. One of the best things about this election is that the GOP will have to significantly change their tone.

One of my favorite women bloggers on Nora Ephron and dreaming about New York...  Alejandra is smart, funny, and totally her own person.  This is my favorite post yet, where her unique voice really shines.

Medical research's "gold standard", the randomized control study, often only proves what the researchers hoped - mostly because the study design, the questions, the variables.... are biased. The push to get published drives the search for "surprising" conclusions, most of which are later disproved, or even reversed. Don't assume that your doctor or the NEJM have all the answers or that their recommendations are fool-proof. Listen to your body, ask questions, be a critical consumer of medical products and services. Because the science often isn't as objective or conclusive as we are led to believe.

And even when it's longitudinal, it's pretty hard to deconvolute the many factors and properly assign causality. Correlations are often misinterpreted as causations, leading to plenty of bad conclusions!

For those who lose their jobs, and let's face it, it's a fact of corporate life these days, your attitude makes all the difference. Remember your networks and reach out and connect. Your network is the best chance of finding something new and landing on your feet!

What an amazing look at how we create the world we see, and how we can remake it with a shift in perspective.  Wonderful, inspiring and provoking.

Love these simple steps to beginning the process of creating a strong corporate culture. We call this a thriving culture, and it's one of the fundamentals of Fearless Organizations™. Which of these steps has your company taken? Any others you would add?
1. No Secrets
2. Common goals
3. Give others credit
4. Coach
5. Celebrate
6. Act now
7. Remove obstacles
8. Be familiar
9. Always do the right thing (morally and ethically)
10. Even if it hurts

If you really want creative people (including programmers, coders, scientists) to do their best work, managers need to recognize what it takes for them to be productive. i've long been a fan of the 5-minute stand up and focused, short meetings with a clear purpose. This indicated you should bookend the day for creative, and not interrupt their process for several hours during the day to let them get into their groove.
