crunch (my open source S3TC/DXTc texture compression, rate distortion optimization, and transcoding library) is now threatened by a software patent (#20110115806): http://code.google.com/p/crunch/

Are there any patent/compression experts out there with advice?

Released rg-etc1.cpp: A fast, high quality ETC1 (Ericsson Texture Compression) block packer/unpacker in a single (ZLIB licensed) source file: http://code.google.com/p/rg-etc1/

rg-etc1 is 2-25x faster than Ericsson's sample compressor (which is the only one available as far as I can determine).
