In the project Bike'N'Play we are creating computer games that motivate people to use their bicycles (or even walk) on their daily commutes. After creating the initial concepts it's now the time for intensive user testing which will be done in the form of board games before expanding them to the digital realm.

Yesterday we had a playtesting session for our board game version of "Bike'N'Conquer". In this game, two to four people (optionally as a team of two) compete in a virtual city for territory control while moving to assigned locations such as work or a store. The territory is marked by simply moving along. Whenever players face each other on a tile they have to start a battle, if a territory is already owned by another player it can be challenged.

While most of the mechanics turned out to be really fun we still need to tweak a few things here and there but we're definitely looking forward to user testing in January 2017.

A little more than a month ago we launched a joint project with Rudy Games and our fellow Hagenberg research group eHealth. The aim is to develop a concept and technical grounding for a so called "combined card game" which adds device support to a classic card game.
Last week we sat together to talk about the technical state of the art research and test the first set of game prototypes, developed by our student team Florian Friedrich and Michael Klammer. Needless to say, we had a lot of fun and are really looking forward to the further course of the project.

The PIE team played an active role in the "Forum Creative Industries" event organized by the CREATIVE REGION Linz & Upper Austria GmbH on June 23rd in the Tabakfabrik Linz. In addition to a step-in-and-play station in the Virtual Reality Playground, an updated version of Swarm Defender from the Game Changer Suite was exhibited on a large projection screen. In case you missed the event, here is a video with some of our impressions from that evening: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T15GM0xCNx8

PIE is everywhere! +juergen hagler and +Michael Lankes are currently in Singapore, attending the 28th Annual Conference of the Society for Animation Studies (http://sas2016.adm.ntu.edu.sg/). They will be talking about "Animating interactive spaces" on Wednesday the 29th.
While exploring the beautiful city-state they noticed a lot of PIE signs in the area. These however denote the Pan Island Expressway, Singapore's longest and oldest expressway but are an eye-catcher nonetheless.
