Peek a boo! The mountain caribou are listed as an endangered species and their biggest threat is habitat loss caused by human development. The MK is one place where these curious creatures live in healthy populations. Lucky adventurers may see caribou just like this, innocent interactions in a pristine environment.

Muskwa Moose
Proof of the serenity between man and nature in this vast wilderness! The presence of a bull moose at our base camp peacefully feeding at sunset. Unconcerned of the humans just 50 feet away, he lives his life as we watch in awe.

When you see it...
Someone doesn’t belong in this photo….and yes if you guessed the Bull Moose you would be correct! The horses are set loose every night to graze and often times wildlife finds safety among the herd. Caribou, elk and moose have been found grazing with the horses over the years, in a form of camaraderie rarely seen in today’s modern world.

Sometimes packhorses have their own ideas of which way to go, and rebel from the pack train to forge their own trail. This particular young packhorse has made it her business to run straight down every mountain she can, in a display that would be comical if it weren’t so terrifying! Fortunately she is young, strong and agile, and has yet to be injured.

The majestic moose, a wonderful creature whose brethren thrive in the MK. This glorious specimen is just another reason why this intact wilderness is so important to save from development.  Brave adventurers who travel the trail with me see many moose, as well as other wild life, in their time in the mountains

Riders Emerge From the Mist
Through the mist and clouds we emerge onto the ridge, inwardly thankful for the end of a long climb. Every moment of sweat and hard work is instantly a distant memory as we reach the heavens and the realm of the alpine.
