The response to Brad Klapper's (AP) question that included "What in all of these events that you’ve described led officials to believe for the first several days that this was prompted by protests against the video?" elicited an answer that directly contradicts the White Houses' (and Joe Biden's debate) version: "That was not our conclusion." The White House is now on the slipperiest of slopes, it is trying to steer the blame either to the intelligence community or the State Department.
If they try to push it to State, they risk the Clintons turning on them, if they try to push it to intelligence, they risk damaging leaked intelligence information that nails White House officials and maybe even whistle blowers breaking ranks in the intelligence community. The White House could be getting it from all sides this coming week even as they are now down or tied in all the RCP polls.
