I always love writing a great review when restaurants deserve it. To say "Alinea" deserves it, is an understatement. I have eaten at 'Raos" in New York City and "Stellas" in New Orleans. The prices are all the same but the food is always different and I enjoy that. The experience is to die for, especially for someone who is a food fan like me. Only so many of us get the special opportunity to dine like this; but I have to say. If you can get in to one of the best restaurants in not only the state, but the United States; I encourage you to devour the delectable menu and meet the more then trusted service who has been making my dinning occasions more then wonderful every-time.

My husband and I decided to celebrate our 3rd anniversary here with a couple of friends that were celebrating their 8th. We have been wanting to go to Alinea forever so we were all very excited about it. The experience was wonderful- the restaurant had dimmed lights and the furniture was in grey tones that gave it a very modern sleek look. The staff was very welcoming, friendly and professional. We were very impressed with the sommelier that was very knowledgeable and gave very good recommendations as we didn't choose the wine pairing. The food presentation was exceptional and fun. My favorite being the helium balloon and the duck. The tastiest dish was the corn, white chocolate, honey and mango dessert as well as the tuna. The ending was fun too when the chefs came to our table to prepare the last milk chocolate dessert though unfortunately that was the least tasty dish of the night! I haven't given it 5 stars mainly because I was comparing Alinea to other 2 or even one michelin stars (that I have been to) that delivered an amazing experience as well but tastier food. In this case some dishes just didn't taste that exceptional. I would recommend going to Alinea because it definitely is a one time experience! I only recommend a wine pairing if you feel you will need more than2/3 drinks throughout the night. I was happy with one amazing glass of chardonnay and the great food and company.

Fire Chef Grant Achatz For Complaining About Crying Baby. I would Rather Listen To A Crying Baby Than An Over Payed Under Appreciative Whiny Chef. I Am Sure He Worked Hard To Learn How To Be Such A Good Chef; Much Education And Training. However How DARE He Complain About One Of His Patrons FIRE HIM NOW If You Are A Prudent Company.

Scored and got last minute Facebook advertisement tickets. I saw a special on Alinea on the Discovery channel awhile back, and knew that if I ever made it to Chicago, I had to go. The food was everything they pictured it to be, surprising, delicious, well thought out, creative, and intriguing. Service was completely worth the automatic 20% gratuity. If you are a foodie, this is truly a culinary adventure worth indulging for.

Never dined there but appreciate what I've heard. Have also heard about diners being disgruntled by families with children, especially wehn the children are ill behaved or crying. I wonder if it wouldn't be a good idea to install a separate family area. I remember when all the movie theaters had a "baby room" where families with small children (who aren't always quiet - naturally enough) could enjoy a movie while their kids played on the floor. What if restaurants had family rooms where parents could enjoy a fine meal and not worry about disturbing childless diners?

Finally got to dine at Alinea last night for a friend's birthday party. Truly a dining experience worth its higher price! The decor and furniture here is a clean, modern theme that did not have any hints of being pretentious and whatnot (The chairs are dreamy comfortable!). With the price tag (Tickets are over $270ish not counting wine and service fee) and all the positive reviews, I expected great food of course. Chef Grant Achatz and the cooking staff here really raised the standards here for fine dining! Having dined at many of Chicago's other finest restaurants, the bar was already really up there. Eighteen courses, eighteen experiences of art on a plate and a quality taste experience from each course. The Hot Potato, Cold Potato and Black Truffle Explosion are well-deserving of the praise they get, but the same effort and quality was consistent throughout the whole evening. I looooved the desserts! The kitchen tour was all smiles from the staff! They were all focused on their work, and the passion was definitely visible in their effort! But that was representative of the service here - It's so friendly and genuine! When purchasing our tickets a few months back, the people here were really accommodating to our group payment desires (We're pretty bad with planning out how things should be paid for birthday parties/gifts/etc., but the staff was really cordial and helping us figure things out). No stuffiness/snobbery, just genuinely great service! I know it's a cliche for one to fall in love with a restaurant, but Alinea deserves my love!
