House Speaker Paul Ryan now has two prospective Democratic challengers. The other is a Navy vet from Ohio who only moved to Wisconsin two months ago solely to challenge the Speaker, so Mr. Bryce is most likely the stronger contender. However, we can safely expect national Democrats will withhold campaign funds until the party finds a centrist former Goldman Sachs guy to run against both of them, who will win the primary and then lose against Ryan.

Anyway, watch the ad, it's really good.

A woefully underrated film in which West had a role that was unfortunately too small.

The Adventures of Bob Hope #106, on sale June 1, 1967.

This cover is noteworthy for a reason comic readers fifty years ago would never have guessed.

The Wikipedia entry for Pablo Fanque is very good indeed. I've said it before and I'll say it again: there needs to be a film about his remarkable life as proprietor of the Circus Royal, the most popular circus in Victorian England.

A lifesize statue of Rachel Carson sits at Waterfront Park across the street from the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole MA where she studied in 1929. As you can barely see in this photo, there are benches on either side of the statue where visitors can sit and look out on Vineyard Sound and the Elizabeth Islands. Carson was born on May 27, 1907.

A good writeup of a film I like. It's about a cynical misogynist paramilitary underwater counterterrorism expert curmudgeon, yet Moore gets the audience cheering for someone who ought to be unsympathetic. Hell, an unnamed British Prime Minister who is clearly meant to be Margaret Thatcher is one of the good guys, yet I still like the film. That's how good it is.

Webcomic characters protecting lives in Boston bike lanes. It'll be a shame when Mayor Walsh removes them instead of taking them citywide.
