Cruising Vietnam

Good to see +Peter de Rooij back last week with a stellar panning photograph of Vietnam traffic which seems to consist mostly of motorcycles and scooters. At least from Peter's point of view. :-)

With the United States holiday of the 4th of July on Thursday this week, #InMotionThursday  updates, comments, pluses and shares will happen on Friday this week.  However, you may share your photographs at anytime. Tag them to #inmotionthursday  (please, no 's' at the end) and follow this page.

Oh, and remember, long exposure photos of fireworks are perfect for this theme. Happy 4th!
Going Home
Back in Vietnam, and back to motorcycle panning shots:-)  This is at the edge of Saigon town centre, at rush hour, with a sky threatening imminent rain.  A threat made good not long after.

During the photowalk yesterday with +Mai Huong and +Vince Dang (thanks for the idea of this shot, Vince).  For #inmotionthursday  +InMotion Thursday by +Scott Thomas.

Themepark Motion

Posted by +Scott Thomas

+Chuck Palmer shares one of my favorite rides.  With the bright Florida sunlight, I am guessing he stopped down the lens to f/16 or smaller and lowest ISO his camera could do to get a slow shutter speed to blue the riders.  He might have even used a filter or two. Maybe he will fill us in. :-)

Slow shutter speeds causes blurs for moving objects in your frame with the camera being steady like this.  Other ways to show motion is panning, extreme long exposures, intentional camera movement (ICM) and motion composites.

If you have motion photos to share, tag them #inmotionthursday  and to this page.  I will share them to the over 1,000+ inmotion photography fans.

I have been busy the last few weeks with other matters but will again be posting and sharing this popular photography theme each week.

Cougar Run

Posted by curator +Scott Thomas

Here's a smooth panning photo from +Jason Britt of a late 1960's Mercury Cougar at speed on the track capturing both the motion of the background and the wheel spin while keeping car nice and sharp.

Panning is one way to show motion in a still photograph. Others are Blurs, Zooming, Long Exposure Streaks, Motion Sequence Composites and Intentional Camera Movement (ICM)

Would love to see you share your motion photos with #inmotionthursday . Tag the theme and then this page anytime.  Every Thursday, I will share your photos with all the photographers and fans of #InMotionThursday
Here's another Road America pic for #inmotionthursday  .  Taken during the Northwoods Shelby Club event last July.

Ghost Motion

Posted by curator +Scott Thomas

A few of these Ghost Motion photos were posted to the #inmotionthursday theme last week like this one from +David R Robinson.  One has to be careful of overexposing when using such long exposures.  The effective is one in which people will take notice of.

Join us today for photos of motion featuring Blurs, Panning, Long Exposures, Intentional Camera Movement or ICM, or Composite Motion.

Circle the Page and tag your photos #inmotionthursday so I can share them with all the fans of motion photography.
Fading Photographers
Last week when I was in Brisbane, Australia, I met up with a group of G+ photographers for a photowalk.  This was taken at Wellington Point as we were wrapping up after the sunset.  Apparenly +Kim Robertson & +Hendrik Ebber only exist during daylight as all that was left as the sun was gone was their ghostly remains as they faded into the night.

This motion photo by +Alex Lapidus shows how a boring hotel lobby can be made to look much more interesting using a slow shutter.

Join in for this week's #InMotionThursday  theme by sharing your motion blur, panning, zooming, long exposure light streaks, composite motion or intentional camera movement (ICM) photographs.

Circle this page and tag them so I can share with the almost 1,000 followers.  Spread the word so we can break that milestone this week!

InMotion Thursday

Post by +Scott Thomas

In Motion Photography shows movement in a still photograph. Each week, there are photos posted to this theme which use very fast shutter speeds and freeze the subject.  These are wonderful action photos but do not show motion. They only imply it.

Here are the kinds of motion photos to post to the #InMotionThursday theme:

Panning
Blurs
Zooming
ICM (Intentional Camera Movement)
Long Exposure Streaks
Motion Sequence Composites

Keep in mind you can post to this theme anytime you want. Each Thursday, I will comment and share them to the almost 1,000 fans of this page.  To insure your photo is seen, tag it with #inmotionthursday and follow this Page. Thank you!

The photo below of the Mad Tea Party ride at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida is an example of blurring motion by keeping the camera steady and using a slow shutter speed of 1/20th of a second for the motion being photographed.

Contortionist Motion

Posted by curator: +Scott Thomas

+Heather Buckley shares with us a man who hurts to look at. Not because of his looks but because of how he got his body limps wound up around himself. Thanks for the unique motion photo, Heather.

Today is the day I go around and find all the photos shared for #InMotionThursday  which have been posted in the last week.  To add yours, tag your photos with the hashtag and share with the page.

In Motion Primer

Post by curator +Scott Thomas

Seems people are still a bit confused as to what this weekly #InMotionThursday photo theme is. In Motion Photography shows movement in a still photograph. This is the realm of relatively SLOW shutter speeds which show blurred movement or streaking.  Photos which FREEZE motion are not the type to share to the theme.

Here are the kinds of motion photos to post to this theme:

    Panning
    Blurs
    Zooming
    ICM (Intentional Camera Movement)
    Long Exposure Streaks
    Motion Sequence Composites

To make your photos visible to the theme, you can either tag your post with the hashtag #InMotionThursday or tag this page in your post by using +InMotion Thursday.

Don't forget, you can tag this page in your photos as you would a person.  Tag yourself first so you and your photo will show up under the Photos section of the page.

To allow your photo to be shared with nearly 1,000 other In Motion Thursday photographers and fans, you must add the page to one of your circles. I wish I could share more photos shared but am unable to.

Below is an example of an In Motion photo of Pepsi Max cans moving on a conveyor belt in soda pop manufacturer using a shutter speed of 1/25th of a second.

Light Streaks

Posted by curator +Scott Thomas

One of the most popular (and fun to do) motion photography techniques is to create light streaks using long shutter speeds.  Easier to do at night but can be done just before sunrises or after sunsets by locking down your camera on a tripod.  Gives a static cityscape or landscape a new dimension.

This is one kind of photo you can share today for #inmotionthursday or you could use one of these techniques: Panning, Zooming, Intentional Camera Movement or ICM, Blurs or Composite Motion Sequences.

Tag your photos such and circle the page!

Background in Motion

Posted by curator +Scott Thomas

Sometimes motion does not have to be the main subject but add to it in the background as NYC photographer +Boris Gorelik shows us in this photo of a pair of street shoes.

Tomorrow (or maybe it is already Thursday where you live) is #inmotionthursday where we share long exposure photos like this to show MOTION IN A STILL PHOTOGRAPH.  Other techniques are panning, zooms, blurs, intentional camera movement or ICM and sequence composites.

Circle this page and tag your photos so I can share them with the hundreds of fans of #InMotionThursday
