Jivamukti Yoga in Practice - Basic Class

One of the six types of Jivamukti Yoga classes, basic class serves as an introduction to those who are new to Jivamukti or yoga in general and wish to know more. Unlike the basic vinyasa and faster-paced spiritual warrior classes, in which students flow through a sequence of poses (asanas) without pausing to correct alignment, in basic class, proper alignment is the focus.

Over the course of four weeks of classes, students learn the proper alignment for standing asanas (week one), forward-bending asanas (week two), and backward-bending asanas (week three). During week four, students learn inversions and meditation techniques, as well as how to integrate the spiritual, mental, and physical aspects of yoga practice. Basic class provides an excellent foundation for those who would like to take the open class but lack the knowledge of the fundamentals needed to safely complete poses such as downward dog, ankle-to-knee seat, and half wheel.

Although beginners are encouraged to take all four weeks of basic class, students are welcome to take as many classes each week as they like, and they can attend any class in the four-week course without taking the previous classes first.
