Carina Panorama
This area of churning star formation is known as the Carina nebula, and it can only be seen in the Southern Hemisphere. Glowing lanes of gas and dust form beautiful shapes, in which young stars are created.

This infrared NASA image shows the familiar Horsehead Nebula in a new light: appearing as a wispy, orange-brown arc rising from a green cloud.

Hubble snaps close-up of the Tarantula
Hubble has taken this stunning close-up shot of part of the Tarantula Nebula. This star-forming region of ionised hydrogen gas is in the Large Magellanic Cloud, a small galaxy which neighbours the Milky Way. It is home to many extreme conditions including supernova remnants and the heaviest star ever found. The Tarantula Nebula is the most luminous nebula of its type  in the local Universe.

A young star forming complex in the constellation of Cepheus.

The complex encompasses the emission region designated Sharpless 171, and the young cluster of stars named Berkeley 59.

The complex is believed to be some 800-1000 pc distant, with the younger components aged no more than a few million years.
