My review is about the meal I had today (June 28, 2014) in the cafeteria. I paid over $10.00 for their lunch buffet (I was a visitor to the YMCA, and not a guest staying there) thinking it would have some healthy and varied choices. I was VERY disappointed when I saw that there was a small salad bar, and a taco bar (chicken, ground beef, canned corn/veggie mix, canned beans, re-fried beans, corn chips, and some runny cheese) and nothing else. Desert included oranges, apples, or some kind of fruit bar. I considered this to be a 'fast food' type of meal which might cost $5.00 elsewhere. I think if I'd been on my own I would have asked for my money back, but I was with a friend and we decided to make the most of it because it was a change from the usual places we went for lunch. When I visited the bathroom afterwards, I found it to be very dirty, and certainly not up to the kind of standards I'd expect. I used to go to this buffet a number of years ago, and I recall there being a variety of food types available that took into account the huge diversity of people that stay at the YMCA, such as vegetarians, and people with different religious beliefs, and those who just wanted to eat healthy. There were very few healthy items on this menu, and vegetarians would have found it hard to get a good meal out of the choices. When I see bathrooms that are not up to par in cleanliness, I have to wonder what the kitchen is like. I haven't been to the YMCA of the Rockies to eat for a long time, and it will be a long time before I try again.

Thank you for spending time with us and for taking time to give us this helpful critique. We are certainly sorry you didn’t enjoy the meal experience, but totally understand that our offerings don’t work for everyone. We have shared your comments with the management team and will be applying what you’ve shared to our planning. We wish you the very best for the rest of the summer.

Stayed at Deer Ridge Lodge for $80. The room wasn't bad but we had a ton of problems! Staff was clueless and new. They said our room was marked 'dirty' and we had to wait for somebody to confirm it was cleaned. We couldn't unlock the door and maintenance had to come help. When he tried, the whole lock came out! He demanded us a different room and went to go get the keys for us which was nice of him at least. Got inside the new room only to find a Budweiser in the trash can, NO AIR CONDITIONER, no shampoo/soap in shower, oh and come to find out the room phone was also blocked for making calls which nobody was able to fix for us.I guess there's no such thing as a good deal anymore; you get what you pay for! Using the broken box fan they left for us in the room to avoid the 80 degree weather...

I love the YMCA for what it is - an opportunity to be in the mountains without the distractions of tv and electronics for a few days. If you cannot go without your modern amenities for a few days then this is not for you. We always stay in the cabins with family, or for a girls weekend out with a group of my daughter and her friends. Pluses are the snowy mountain views (in the winter), activities (craft barn, pool, gymhouse), proximity to town, and the fact we all stay in one big cabin together with a fire going all weekend. We always make meals in the cabins as the cafeteria food is just that. The cabins could definitely use some updating on the interiors. But I still overlook all of that because this experience is unique - a chance to reconnect with other people and nature without the usual distractions. Most of our other vacations involve the hussle-bussle and modern amenities we have all come to be accustomed to - kudos to the YMCA to sticking to their mission for all these years.

The facilities are mostly built new. Everything is contemporary and comfortable with a mountain feeling throughout. We had our first visit for Easter Brunch. The selection of food in the buffet was INCREDIBLE and the quality was outstanding! Afterwards we spent some time playing miniature golf. Overall our Easter celebration was very memorable and we will return again! Leanne Goff
