The mother of one of my best friends just passed away. She was an inspiration to me in so many ways, and a woman of strength--the kind that only comes through fighting through the battles of life and enduring every trial that comes along. Ultimately she was felled in the battle against cancer, but her legacy will live through those whose lives she touched over and over.
When we face tragedy like this, there is usually two ways we can go: 1) we can walk the path that honors their memory, or 2) we can choose another way. Honoring someone's memory means learning from their example and perpetuating the lessons they taught. One lesson she taught me was to love your children unconditionally. When they do what is right, love them. When they do what is not right, love them more.
I am grateful to know the gospel of Jesus Christ, which embodies that principal of love in the promise of eternal families. I know I will see this woman again.
It's my understanding that when we leave this world, we take nothing material--only knowledge. Well that's a relief because this woman makes the best stuffed tofu! I can just imagine what it'll be like when prepared in the heavenly kitchen above! Love you mom.
