I had a great impromptu shoot with fitness legend Monica Brant today, while she worked out at the track. This is one of my favorite frames.

I picked up a discounted Lytro light field camera today. The camera itself is pretty cool. It's fun. It powers on instantly, and shoots instantly, and it's cool not to have to worry too much about focus (you do have to worry about it a little bit). The design and build quality of the camera is actually really nice.

However, the software and general usability of the images once you make them is HORRIBLE. You can barely do anything with the photos. You can't crop them, adjust color, save animated gifs (unless you're using the iOS app - but not the desktop software - but for some reason it only exports them to your camera roll at 320x320px).

The desktop app can only export them as JPGs or RAW images, even though you can't do anything with those, as far as I know. I'd love to be able to export the image as a Quicktime file, or image sequence, but that isn't possible. And, in order for the living pictures to work, you have to upload them to and embed them from the Lytro website. They are not self-contained in that sense. It's just dumb.

I guarantee that the main reason this thing will fail is because of it's software. The design is simply atrocious. It would also be cool if the images were a little larger than 1080x1080. Even 1920x1080 would at least be usable in video editing, but no.

Now this is a specialized adapter... Not a common find.

Day three shooting for +Google at ISTE 2013 in San Antonio. I have to say, I've learned a lot about Google apps this week. Also, I think I want a Chromebook.
