Watch the touching story of how an #Armenian soldier in #Vernashen was able to regain his #sight aboard our #MobileEyeHospital. Without surgical facilities at his local clinic, Ghevond was thrilled when our #MobileEyeHospital reached his town. Watch as he climbs aboard our #MobileEyeHospital at the 2:00 mark and finally gets the care he needs.

"I keep coming back because it’s the right thing to do," Dr. Sui Chien Wong says of his now more than 10 trips to #Armenia to perform sight-saving surgery and train the country's top physicians. Dr. Wong joined our team of physicians in 2014, when the London-based eye surgeon got a call from #AECP's Founder.

Sometime last year, Armenian-American author and activist Anna Astvatsaturian Turcotte reached out to the #AECP. Once a Baku refugee living in #Armenia herself, Anna shared with us the incredible need for medical care among so many #refugees in #Armenia.

A few short months later, our team took the lead and organized free eye screenings at three different refugee dormitories in #Armenia. Now, 220 refugees have been screened, 145 glasses have been distributed, 27 patients have been referred to our #MobileEyeHospital for advanced care, and 8 sight-saving surgeries have been performed — all at no cost. We thank Anna for shining light on this important cause and are humbled to have had the opportunity to help these vulnerable #refugees in #Armenia.

“It’s not right for babies to go blind when there is potential treatment,” Dr. Sui Chien Wong says, describing why he ultimately decided to get involved with the Armenian EyeCare Project.

Recently featured in +TheOphthalmologist's 2017 Power List of the Top 50 "Rising Stars" in #ophthalmology, Dr. Wong has been an instrumental part of our program to eliminate preventable #blindness among babies and children in #Armenia. Watch how one of the world's most talented eye surgeons began his journey with the #AECP.

Our #corneatransplant program began due to an incredible need for the surgery among patients in #Armenia who couldn't afford its cost — roughly $800 for one procedure.

These are the stories of three #Armenians who recently received #corneatransplants because of your support. Thank you to each donor who has contributed to this program. These #Armenians have #sight because of you.

Our Nursing Program began when we noticed that the nurses working at the Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) in #Yerevan had no formal training for intensive care unit nursing.

Because medical education and training is a top priority of the #AECP, we partnered with +Children's Hospital Los Angeles to offer free training classes for Armenia's #NICU nurses so they could better treat premature infants in the country. See how our training program has impacted the lives of these #nurses and the tiny patients they treat. #NursesWeek

Happy #NursesWeek! We'd like to take this time to thank all the dedicated nurses in #Armenia who the #AECP has the pleasure of working with. Our Nursing Program for Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) nurses in #Yerevan has given us the opportunity to get to know these fine medical personnel who are so committed to saving the sight of premature babies in #Armenia. Thank you all for your tireless work!
