How much storage do you need?!
It is important estimate the amount of storage space you will need for your belongings before purchasing a rental unit. Take inventory of the items headed into storage and write it down. Be sure to measure the dimensions of large bulky items like appliances and furniture. Take note of what is stackable and what is not. Plan for needing extra space so you have room to make a walkway to get to the back of your unit. Give us a call for more #storagetips, or comment with your own!

It’s that time of year again to tackle some much needed spring cleaning. If you’re like a lot of us, your car doesn’t actually fit in its cozy home called the “garage.” Here are a few tips to get your garage in shape.

- Start by cleaning and sorting the items you no longer need. Go through everything! Sort items into piles that need to be organized or brought to your storage unit.
- Invest in sturdy shelving and stackable clear-plastic bins. A lot of space is typically wasted higher up. Store items that won’t need to be taken down often on top shelves.
- Consider re-arranging. Take the time to plan a layout of how your garage will function the best; grab a friend to help you move the bulky items.
- Store similar items together: yard tools & supplies, camping gear, sporting goods, etc.
- Keep the floor clear.

Being able to store your vehicle in the garage will keep it clean and will help it last longer.

Here is a list of items that should not be stored in your storage unit. Rather than storing these items, consider properly disposing of them or finding room at your home:

*Perishable Food and Animal Products; these items can rot, mold and attract pests.
*Combustible, Flammable, Hazardous or Toxic Materials; these items can cause a fire or chemical damage to your belongings and surrounding units. Examples include gasoline, propane tanks, kerosene, motor oil, acid, grease, fertilizer, paint, cleaners and ammunition. This includes excess gasoline in your lawn mower or weed eater.
*Personal Valuables such as cash, Personal Papers, financial papers and assets, legal documents such as Deeds, wills and passports.

Getting organized starts right at home. Do your best to organize your garage, closets and sheds - and then bring the items you don’t need into your storage unit! The new season brings the need for different items, so keep in mind what you will need in the coming months. Keep items at home that you will be needing and store away what you won’t be touching for a bit. You will enjoy less clutter at home and make fewer last minute trips to and from your storage unit.

Moving, organizing and decluttering can be a stress free experience. Spend a small amount of time planning out your move to avoid becoming overwhelmed with all the tasks involved. The following tips and tricks will help you get started:

Make a Plan
- Where are you going to store your stuff?
- Do you need any storage supplies?
- Do you need to rent a moving truck?
- How much is storing your stuff going to cost?
Simplify
- What can you live without?
- What have you not used in years?
Start Packing Early
- Do not wait to do all your packing in one day. Spreading out the packing can decrease your stress.
Take a Break
- If you feel some stress or anxiety rolling over then maybe it is time for a little rest and relaxation. Take some time to go on a walk, or just do something for you that is not moving related.

The premises are clean and well maintained. The units are in a locked and monitored building. The management is very helpful. Air conditioned units makes moving on a hot day much easier. The units are well lit and they have great music piped in to make the time go by even faster. They provide excellent moving carts to help off load your truck with less trips. I have contacted well over 15 storage unit companies and Carlsbad Self Storage has gone above and beyond to support Wounded Warrior Homes. Thank you for your support of our military! You have earned my 5 star rating hands down!

Great service, clean facility. The place is very secure and the access hours are some of the best I found. The prices seemed high at first, but are in-line with everyone else in the area ... I guess my lack of knowledge was to blame here. Carlsbad Self Storage has the best service and facility, so they were the easy choice. You can't go wrong with this place - I highly recommend Carlsbad Self Storage. No one else in the area even comes close.

Outstanding facility and customer service! Our company has used this storage facility for several years now and I can't speak highly enough of Carlsbad Self Storage. The units are super clean and extremely well maintained. However, it is the exceptional customer service that makes this place really stand out. The staff has consistently gone above and beyond to help us out. Even when it has meant that they would be inconvenienced, they have graciously offered their assistance with a smile and a wonderful attitude. The immediate impression you will receive when working with the folks here is that the staff truly cares about their customers and their customer's property that is being stored. Best storage facility but also some of the nicest staff I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with!

If you are looking for a great place to store your items for a month or years this is the place. I have used the facility for 2 years now. I have never seen any kind of bugs or mold which I was leary of when I put my belongings here. The place is kept VERY clean!!! Easy access and is locked in the evening. There are cameras on the property and there are people that live on the premises. The people who run the facility are nice and accommodating to your needs. I did use their moving truck which saved me some money. I have never had an issue with paking or being able to get to my unit and I am on an upper floor. As someone has mentioned the air-condition and music has been an added bonus!!!!
