Colourful Stones, Honeycomb Cliff, Friendly Animals and Lost Strangers in Elgol, Isle of Skye, Scotland
The tiny village of Elgol turned out to be my surprise location on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. There’s always a place like that. Somewhere unexpected, where you might not have planned to go, that becomes one of the most memorable places of the trip.

I discovered the most interesting beach I’ve ever been to! This place must be fascinating for geologists because every 50 feet or so, the shore changed entirely creating a huge variety of foreground elements within a short walking distance.

Ready the story behind the image and see more photos from Elgol on the blog:

Arnarstapi Iceland
As much as I loved the cliffs and seaside, I was delighted by the fishing harbour just a short distance away. From my position on the docks, I was able to photograph this cute little white house at the base of Mount Stapafell with sea stacks in the foreground.

Iceland: A Jewel on the Black Sand Beach
The black sand beach. With icebergs.

Or … ice cubes as the driver liked to call them! There were some large ones and some small ones, but either way it was the #1 thing on my wish list of things to see and photograph in Iceland.

But the first time we stopped at the beach across from Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon, it was ugly outside. Sideways rain and freezing cold, bitter wind. Only four of us in the group braved the weather and risked our babies lives (our cameras of course, not real babies) for the sake of an ice cube on the black sand.

Iceland: Kirkjufellsfoss Waterfall
On the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, the Kirkjufellsfoss waterfall channels the glacial water into three spouts on the top level and then even more spouts on the lower level. On both sides of the waterfall, rugged mountains make a stunning backdrop.

This is the lower level of the falls from the less popular side.

Reasons to Love Vancouver Island in Summer: #2 Humpback Whales
Another one of my favourite photography subjects in summertime is seen during my frequent boating trips: Humpback Whales.

In fact, I’m seeing more and more of them all the time. They are returning to British Columbia in increasingly higher numbers every year.
