It would probably surprise most of us that an astounding one in eight Americans receive aid through food banks and kitchens.  Wanted to let everyone know of a great charity, Martha's Kitchen, that has served over 2 Million meals to the hungry over the last 30 years.  I love their moto,  "Feed the hungry with dignity: no questions asked".  With the recent drought and rising cost of food, helping the hungry is more important than ever.  Please help Martha's Kitchen so they can continue their worthy efforts. Cheers!

Wanted to tell you about an incredible charity, Simone's Kids, that operates the School of Hope in Nakaseke, Uganda.  Simone Plimpton got involved when she was only a junior in high school while visiting East Africa.  The school was facing closure and in 2010, Simone, started Simone's Kids and with the help of family, friends and fundraisers, she was able to raise enough money to pay the rent for the school and keep it open.  The school currently educates over 300 disadvantaged children, many of whom live in orphanages.  With education, the goal is to help build a real future for these children who were not born with the same privileges most of us share.  Simone's Kids has since purchased land and is planning to build a school with a library, cafeteria, dormitories, teacher housing and in door bathrooms.  Please consider supporting Simone's Kids and share their worthy cause with your community.  Cheers!

With the Olympics in full gear, it would be appropriate to support a worthy sports charity.  The Portland Hoop Kings, established in 2003, is a non profit organization that helps at risk inner city youths, ages 10 to 17, become involved in an after school basketball program.  By engaging in positive activities such a competitive sports, the student athletes build character, learn team building and improve educational goals.  The success of the program is evident in the 95% high school completion program with 90 per cent of these students moving on to further higher educational opportunities.

Please help support Portland Hoop Kings in their efforts to keep inner city youths in school and on to higher education.  By creating a positive environment for kids, we can improve their lives and the community.  Cheers!

Drop in the Bucket Charity helps children in Africa by providing clean water at schools.  By providing sanitary systems, Drop in the Bucket helps enable children to get the education they need and realize their potential.  This charity focuses on female education and is changing the attitudes about female education in Sub Saharan Africa.  In fact, one of the girls schools they support was previously terrorized by Joseph Kony and the LRA.  Because of the support from Drop in the Bucket and the school's intervention, the community's perception that it is wasteful to spend money on girls is changing.  As Ban Ki-Moon has stated, “Women must be full partners in development, so they can lift themselves and their communities out of poverty.”  No More Poverty, Inc. is proud to support Drop in the Bucket.  Please send the word out on this wonderful charity on your Twitter, Facebook and, of course, Google+ media. Even if you can't help directly, it helps to get the word out on the positive impact Drop in the Bucket is making in Sub Saharan Africa.  Cheers
