Haunted By The Ghosts Of Dead Cyclists, Part Two is now up on Bicycle Retailer. http://www.bicycleretailer.com/north-america/2015/11/12/rick-vosper-haunted-ghosts-dead-cyclists-part-two
This time, we're going to look at how the ghosts of dead cyclists directly — or not so directly — haunt the bike business.

Haunted By The Ghosts Of Dead Cyclists. Part One of a 3-part editorial I'm doing for @BicycleRetailer. http://ht.ly/UfFSQ
There is nothing the media likes better than a dead cyclist. Unless it’s a dead cyclist who was not wearing a helmet.

At #Starbucks (!), drinking hot chocolate (I wouldn't swallow their stale, improperly roasted, watered-down, one-third-inferior-Robusta-bean faux-coffee simulacra on a dare)...and I'm shocked-- shocked, I tell you-- to hear the following coming over the speakers.

I for one am not quite ready to welcome our new Corporate Coffee Masters, but well played, Starbucks, well played...even if you did the Diana Krall version and not the infinitely hipper covers by Ella and Louis, or Nat Cole or (my personal fave) Slim & Slam.

Second (and final) installment of my piece on Trek's consumer-direct bike program is now available at Red Kite Prayer. Hope you like it.
Trek's Online Sales Plan, Part Two. Last week we talked about Trek's omnichannel sales program, where consumers can order Trek bikes direct from the company's website and pick them up from (or even have them delivered by) their local Trek dealer. We talked about how the plan would work, ...

Part One of my two-part article on Red Kite Prayer: Why Trek’s Consumer-Direct Initiative Changes Everything. See what you think:

http://redkiteprayer.com/2015/10/why-treks-consumer-direct-initiative-changes-everything/
The Most Important Industry Move No One Wants To Talk About. It's been just over sixty days since Trek's bombshell announcement at the company's August dealer event. Pull-Quote 1.021 Prefaced by the phrase “we play offense!” Trek president and longtime Packers fan John Burke told retailers and ...

What I want to know is, when are we going to drop the other shoe and just start referring to it as F***book.

Consider the Two For One special as a microcosm of our culture: You pay the same price you would have paid anyway for the privilege of consuming twice as much as you wanted in the first place.

Another gem from the P-List.

Who knew? Turns out the first American cowboys were Irish, the first cattle drive here was in Boston, and the first cattle baron was an ancestor of...author Thomas #Pynchon.

Great read.  Perhaps someone should update this Wikipedia entry. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cattle_drives_in_the_United_States

Turns out there's a film about my old teacher Lou Harrison premiering in Chicago tomorrow. Who's going?

There's a trailer on the website so you can see what the film is about.

I studied Javanese gamelon and sulingan (flutes) with Lou for a couple years in college and took classes in world musics and tuning systems from him. He was a very nice man and an amazing musician.
