Earlier tonight I thought to myself as I sat at the computer: It was clear today and it is probably very pretty outside right now, why am I inside when I could be out making a picture? I got up and went out to see what I could do to fix that.

The sun was behind the mountains and there were only a few little pieces of cloud in the sky for color, so went toward the color and my old standby, Gun Site Peak above Clarkston. An added bonus was an eastbound jet high in the sky with its contrail in the frame as an additional element.

To avoid the "black blob" of a mountain rising out of the hay field, I merged two exposures - one to preserve the detail of the mountains and the hay field with a darker shot that recorded the color in the sky. Hope you enjoy it!
