When I'm having A Day, I need look no further than a gift from Alexa, who has adopted me as her Fairy Goth Mother. She made me my very own personalized, one-of-a-kind My Little Pony. Her name is Fruit Punch, and she even has a Death squiggle (a la Gaiman) under one eye.

It's hard to remain too grumpy or misanthropic in the face of such love and awesomeness.

Twenty five years ago today was my first day as a Reservations Agent at the Doubletree. I met Jacque Burlou and, as the saying goes, a beautiful friendship was born.

Thank you for being so much more than a BFF all these years. You're the Dawn to my Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the Bubbles to my Buttercup (and anyone who's ever seen the "Bubblevicious" episode of PPG knows why that's a compliment). You believe in me unfailingly, and you stand up to me when I'm full of shit. And while I'm used to being the protector, you take care of me in ways I never knew I needed. I would really and truly be lost without you. I love you to the Moon and back.

Here's to another 25 years worth of adventures! Wonder what kind of commemorative tattoo I'll get for THAT occasion?!? ;-)

"Just as being truly compassionate doesn’t mean always being sweet and nice (sometimes it means being cold, harsh), being truly honest doesn’t mean speaking your thoughts and feelings as they arise. Other awarenesses and intention must be at work—and a recognition that the truth is not solid.

Picard in front of Picard carrying a pi card. I think I just won the Internet.

(Yoinked from a friend on Facebook; no idea of origin, but ginormous kudos to whoever's responsible.)

Since we're well in the midst of severe weather season again, sharing this service I've found invaluable. It's inexpensive - under $20/year - and timely.

Based on your smart phones GPS location, you get a call/text when there's a tornado, flash flood, severe thunderstorms, etc. within 3 miles of you. This occurs within 60 seconds of NOAA issuing the alert.

If you're in Tornado Alley or a hurricane zone, I strongly encourage you to look into it. If you do a lot of driving, Travel Mode is well worth it.

Be safe and well, all.

FWIW I have used the service for 2 years & found it to be reliable. Nothing iffy in my experience, +Chet Harris.

My friend Scott would have been 43 today. It still seems unreal that he's been gone for so long (murdered July 11, 1991).

Happy birthday, Scooter. I still love and miss you very much.

I love this band. A lot. Maybe even ALOT. (And not just because Henry & I bonded over a mutual love of chocolate chip cookie dough, or because Charles obliged when Henry said, "Show me yer biscuits!" while we were at breakfast...)

They're pretty amazing. The open to the first time I saw them in Dallas was one of the most intimate, effective, AMAZING things I've seen in live music shows. The fact that they're Good People doesn't hurt, of course, but they make damn good music.

If you can't donate, then shill by gods! Give 'em a listen. If you're a #musicbasedlifeform like me, you'll probably see why I'm so keen on them. Also, it's cool to support the up-and-comers. So there's that.

Go forth, my lovelies, and spread the gospel of Aloud far and wide!
