What is Bunion?

Bunion is a foot problem characterized by a bony, painful bump on the joint base of your big toe. Bunion typically changes the shape of your foot, pointing your big toe inwards, and brings inflammation and stiffness to your foot. Wearing incorrect footwear, arthritis, and genetic disposition are common causes of bunion.

Understanding a Rotator Cuff Tear
(http://ow.ly/C3p030nv268)

A rotator cuff tear is one of the most common shoulder injuries and can bring on a lot of pain and limited movement in adults. It is reported that over two million people living in the United States see their doctor because of a rotator cuff problem.

The rotator cuff is a group of tendons that help support the shoulder and allow you to raise and circle your arms. When a rotator cuff tendon is torn, it cannot completely attach to your upper arm and generally causes a lot of pain, limiting your range of motion. Most rotator cuff tears are caused by aging, putting people over 40 at a greater risk along with athletes and individuals whose jobs involve a lot of overhead reaching—like painters and carpenters.

Preparing for a Hip Replacement
(http://ow.ly/6bsS30nv264)

Preparing your house for the changes you will experience after a hip replacement is crucial for a speedy recovery. The first place to start is by learning all the information you can online about hip replacement surgery and writing any questions you may have down so you can ask your doctor before surgery. Working out or losing a couple pounds can help speed up your recovery and make getting around easier with assisted devices like a walker or cane. Always keep friends and family updated of your surgery and ask for help when you need it so you don’t move in ways that could disrupt your hip’s healing.

Should You Get a Stress Test?

If you’re experiencing chest pain or an irregular heartbeat, you may want to get a stress test done to monitor any changes in your heart’s activity. A stress test includes monitoring physical activity—like walking on a treadmill or riding an exercise bike—in a controlled setting to get the heart pumping and better expose problems with your heart’s blood flow. This safe and common procedure generally takes about an hour but only contains 15 minutes of exercise.

Ani Medical Group’s experienced staff has performed hundreds of stress tests on patients with cardiac problems to help create a specialized treatment plan. Call us at 732-264-8282 to learn more about stress tests or to schedule one today.

Why You May Be Experiencing Shoulder Pain
(http://ow.ly/Irt430nv25X)

Your shoulder helps make everyday activities possible, involving everything from brushing your teeth to driving. Shoulder pains often arise as we age and it is important to remember that athletes aren’t the only ones who experience shoulder pain. As the most flexible joint, the shoulder is made up of three bones that work with ligaments and muscles that allow you to move, lift, and swing your arm. If any one of these parts are damaged, it often results in shoulder pain.

A Look at Knee Arthroscopy
(http://ow.ly/QaKA30nv25U)

Knee arthroscopy is a surgical technique used to diagnose issues in the knee joint by making a small incision and inserting a mini camera. The footage from the camera allows the doctors to view the inside of your joint on a screen so they can assess the problem. Doctors may request an arthroscopy to make a diagnosis or to offer further treatment if they’ve already diagnosed the condition. Knee problems like a torn meniscus, knee fractures, and a swollen synovium can be diagnosed and treated with arthroscopy.

Signs You May Need a Knee Replacement
(http://ow.ly/HMWN30nv25Q)

When most people start feeling the pain of knee osteoarthritis, most of the damage has already taken place. Your knee is a core part of your ability to move so it is important to listen to your body if you are experiencing any changes—like difficulty sitting down or pain that prevents quality sleep. It is also important to monitor any changes in your knee’s appearance because it could be caused by inflammation which is often an early sign of arthritis. If you are experiencing changes in your knee, talk to your health provider so they can create a treatment plan and assess if a knee replacement is an needed.
