I wonder if the signal algorithm adjusts another signal - performance for the performance reduction.  HTTPS is slower not matter what you do.  Google.com is painfully slow sometimes because of it.

Simple summary:
1) Needed some patents
2) Spent several $billion too much for it
3) Cutting losses

Larry is starting to sound like the typical corporate PR/BS spewing that is typical of these press releases.

We’ve just signed an agreement to sell Motorola to Lenovo for $2.91 billion. As this is an important move for Android users everywhere, I wanted to explain why in detail. We acquired Motorola in 2012 to help supercharge the A...

The question should have been, "Does Google favor newer and refreshed page design?"  New isn't always better, it can be, well, just newer.

the user decides about better or not - not google does it, i guess... You know Pogo Stick, bounce rate, time on site, maybe a community and so on - I think that are the facts for google to say oh - this site is better than the old one. The crawler isn't coming take a look and sends back: no redesign since 1995 - put it down :)

I'm going to use this at a large company gathering as part of an education for people on site search.  Thanks for posting.  Great conversation starter.
If you like the full-screen Google Trends visualization that shows the latest hot searches, there's a cool project that uses the same animations to show Google Analytics searches in real time. It's made possible by the recent...

If you are not following this, you should.  Incredible photography.

Fish of the day Great Barrier Reef Survey 2 (Day 7)

Our favourite shot so far. These two Spotted Eagle Rays were photographed flying over the Yongala Wreck.

I find this to be true, especially as I watch the partisan sniping that constitutes the U.S. presidential race and the lemming like party following that eats up their own side's statements.

Making fun of other people's belief's isn't an effective way to get them to reason.

I'll admit that I haven't found a way to breakthrough irrational crowd (congregation) based belief systems. But poking at people isn't the way to do it.

Oyster of the day Great Barrier Reef Survey 2 (Day 6)

This image was captured earlier this month on Davies Reef. The colours on the reef are always amazing but the colours of this variable thorny oyster and its psychedelic lips are simply mind blowing.

Why big technology companies eventually crumble.

“The company does a great job, innovates and becomes a monopoly or close to it in some field, and then the quality of the product becomes less important. The company starts valuing the great salesmen, because they’re the ones who can move the needle on revenues, not the product engineers and designers.”

Ernesto was honest all of the way through the process. He knew his competitive information as well. Much better than the guy over at Gurnee Honda. Easy transaction. Best car purchase I have had in a long time. Better than the Lexus I bought a few years ago.
