Decent location and venue, with a series of different rooms over 5 floors. A variety of different styles of bars, but doesn't really do as much with the space as you might expect. Decent enough.

Espionage is a mainstream night club in central Edinburgh. It has a capacity of around 1200 though this is split accross all 5 floors. Typicaly it hosts two Video DJs one on each of the lower two floors each floor playing a slightly different flavour of mainstream comercial music. Entrance is free and drinks are moderatly priced. Espionage benifits from its prime location within a minutes walk from tourist areas such as the Royal Mile and Grassmarket. It has entrances both on Victoria Street (top floor) and the Cowgate (bottom floor). Espionage was formed when Saltire Taverns refurbishment the old Rocking Horse in the late 90s. In the mid 00s Saltire Taverns sold Espionage to Duddingston Leisure.

Avoid this place. Entry is free, which is why I've been dragged there on many occasions. Terrible crowd and the worst music you could hear. The "djs" can't do any sort of mixing and are only playing out of the same cds. Drinks are quite expensive. Overall this place could be cool as it's massive and in prime location but instead it's one of the worst commercial, chavvy and tacky nightclubs in Edinburgh. Go there only if you are in really good company, can't afford to pay a few quids on entry for a good dj, or if you have excessively bad taste.

We were here for some of the Free Festival shows and it was a great venue. A little uncomfortable but the drinks were no more overpriced than the rest of Edinburgh and it was a very relaxing atmosphere.

This is a very unusual club, I think there are something like 7 floors, each one quite small and all playing different music types. You don't get bored as you can just move on. Had some great nights out here would recommend

Espionage’s is a great place to go if you’re looking for a good laugh and don’t take your music too seriously. It’s free entry which is always a bonus and it’s that big that you never have to wait too long to get served at one of the bars. It’s aimed at students mostly so the there tends to be quite a few promos on a lot of the time. It attracts such a range of people that you’re pretty much guaranteed to find someone to have a laugh with and it’s easy enough to escape from less desirables. The music’s good in a cheesy sing-a-long kind of way, and I’d recommend Espionage as the sort of place to finish up and evening.
