Ready for #PortalAppealReview 29 to 1

Rejected Edit
Portal Title: Arlington Reservoir
Location: 20 Park Circle, Arlington MA 02476

Details:
There are two portals in Arlington titled Arlington Reservoir. This landmark is known locally as the Park Circle Water Tower or the Arlington Standpipe. The other portal is across town at the body of water known as the Arlington Reservoir on Lowell Street. Having two portals with the same name, on opposite sides of town, is confusing, and this one should be renamed to conform with local understanding.

Ready for #PortalAppealReview 48 to 10
Type of appeal: Rejected location edit
Portal title: Dunstable Lion
Portal current location: https://www.ingress.com/intel?ll=42.673445,-71.472637&z=17&pll=42.673617,-71.473144
Portal correct location: 42.673440,-71.471343
Maps link: https://www.google.com/maps/place//@42.67344,-71.471343,17.73z

Streetview is available for both locations; I've included a couple of screenshots as the poll options.

I think this is straightforward: in the poll photos, the lion figure is not visible on the left on Main Street at the current portal location. It is visible on the right on Lowell Street at its correct location. It's even visible in satellite view as a dot of gold at the northwest corner of the driveway it guards.

I'd be okay with removing the portal, I just never see deletions happen so I'm aiming for the possible.

(It's possible I got the coordinates slightly wrong initially, doing this on the fly after we drove by.)

For more photos, see

They are:
An Intel view, with the portal selected. The portal ought to be on Lowell Street, the road heading east and slightly south from its current location on Main Street.

I often see it as 20+%. But it all depends of course on what else you're doing. If you're constantly Ingressing then it will definitely dominate anything else and make other percentages go down.

If you're not reading about Ingress Portal Appeals, this is probably irrelevant. :)

I think the new process has potential, but it definitely needs some fine tuning. These are the key changes I see as necessary for it to work (not sufficient--that would also mean some oversight of the voters on the back end--but necessary). These are changes I'd like to see in the community info regarding this appeals process. I'll repeat them in comments on this post and would love people to +1 what they agree with.

For the applicant:
* For new portal appeals, require that a screencap of the rejection email be included. (This has a couple of benefits: it lets readers know the basis for rejection and it emphasizes that the appeal process is for after receiving a rejection.)

* Either state that the portal is visible on Streetview, include a longer-range photo, or explain why that is not possible.

* (after other requirements, some advice) You have done the minimum. NOW, include supporting info that makes this appeal different from what was already looked at and rejected. Give us a reason to change our minds.

* You must not disable comments. Blocking and comment deletion should be used only in extreme situations.

For the voter:
* A statement on what a yes or no vote means, INCLUDING a clarification on whether we are supposed to be taking personal taste into account when voting, "A yes vote means that all requirements have been addressed and that you agree with/support/like the appeal.' Or whatever the intended meaning of each vote is. Please be clear with us.

Results:
* At some time at least an hour after the post, there must be at least 15 more yeses than nos, and Yes must have at least 55% of the vote. At that point, edit your post to add a statement like "Ready for # PortalAppealReview 25 to 9". (Numbers negotiable... the point is to have a percentage threshold and to maintain a lead past the initial rush.)

Thoughts?

(Edited to break the hashtag. Sorry about that.)

Trouble is the whole minority rights/numbers thing. Legit & unlegit portals suffer from fanatical mobilizing more supporters. If 'truth' were self evident, we wouldn't have this discussion. Also, the more criteria and/or variables created, the more uncertainty (that discussion of the B&B revolves around a technicality; the player who posted the appeal has animosity towards various; that portal is of strategic value (did you notice how many links it had?), etc).

I don't think there's a perfect solution (hence the wide variability in portal quality). Making the review process open though, removes the "hot potato" from the hands of Niantic. And with the whole sponsored portals thing ...

And I agree with nearly everything you've written!

Rejected Portal Edit:
Portal : Первый Инвестиционный Банк
ulitsa "Nikulitsel" 8, 9002 Varna, Bulgaria
https://www.ingress.com/intel?ll=43.217328,27.924100&z=18
Proposed new name: Бизнес сграда, Ген. Колев (Office building, Gen. Kolev)

Dear Ingress operations,
I would like to appeal the rejection of the Name edit of this portal. First of all the building under question is not the First Investment Bank as the new name suggests,  but an office building (harboring many different firms)as the first name and correspondingly the edit appeal states. This makes it very suspicious of an attempt to advertise unlawfully this bank. Second,  the edited name of the portal is in Russian. I would not have complained if it was named in English,  as it is an accepted universal language,  but in Bulgaria the official language is Bulgarian and naming it in Russian makes no sense at all. Third, I strongly suspect that the name was changed as a part of a malicious prank intended to annoy and insult the local players - several portals in Varna area were renamed in Russian roughly around the same time.
Sincerely
GladiusNoctis

General Discussion  -

It's lovely when everybody gets a prize, but I think I would prefer a bit of curation.

(And for correct spelling to win out over being first, but grumble whine moan.)

This portal just went live 100+ days after the mural appeared on a bike path that Ingressers already frequented. You see the results. I confess I have two in there because I lost track of whether I'd submitted it and couldn't remember what portal name to look for.

I'm happy to do it, I just don't know where to find the Ingress community.  Is this a G+ thing?  A website? THAT is the part I don't know about. :)
