Exquisite cocktails and exceptional service. This is by far one of the best places for fine dining. The portions are on the small side, but when the taste is this good, you don't need large portions. Mostly, I love this place because I experienced some very special occasions here. The waitstaff is excellent and will help you create a very memorable moment that you won't soon forget. **Make a reservation.

I'd really like to rate The Raymond higher. Its atmosphere and historic location is truly unique and enticing. Their cocktail program is innovative (the Cedar House?) and rather tasty while the service overall has been friendly in my experience. The big issue has been the changes to the overall menu and happy hour menu over the past few years. Prices, offerings, portions, etc. all seem to fluctuate to the point that I'm not sure what to expect when I go and often staff appears confused as well. It's an issue enough that it has prevented me from returning outside of going in for cocktails.

1886 is a classy bar located in the beautiful cozy cottage-like restaurant called the Raymond Restaurant. You can easily miss it while driving if you're not paying attention to your gps. PARKING: Street parking (very narrow) or if you're lucky, behind the restaurant (limited). No valet. SERVICE: Our server was knowledgable about the cocktails we asked about. She also recommended one that's not on the menu for my boyfriend who loves whiskey. From what i've seen and read, it seems like the service here could be a hit or miss. Our neighbor decided not to order food because of the wait. AMBIENCE: Dim, cozy, chill, classy. There's an outdoor patio outside if there's no room inside. COCKTAILS: :: The Smoking Jacket :: l LOVE theatrical presentations. The bartender poured the drink into a glass full of maple wood smoke (smells like campfire) topped it with orange-vanilla ash. It's a glass of Irish whiskey with tobacco bitters. This is not on the menu. I liked it because the whiskey had a subtle sweetness from the bitters. :: Bonita Applebum :: Fresh pear, amaro nonino, apple jack and lemon. The waitress recommended this because I wanted something sweet and refreshing. I couldn't taste the alcohol but I did get drunk off of it on an empty stomach. You could taste the sweet pear with a citrus after taste. WHAT CAUGHT MY ATTENTION: I found out that they serve 2 very unique cocktails. :: Cake cocktail:: Table next to me ordered the freshly baked chocolate cake bite topped with bourbon icing with a shot of White Russian... It sounded grander than it looked. :: Cucumber cocktail :: they serve cocktail in a hallowed out cucumber with salted rims. WHAT THEY NEED TO BRING BACK (our server agrees): The snowman cocktail!!! looks like a creamy cocktail topped with a round ice cream ball decorated to look like frosty the snowman. I'm def coming back to try their other cocktails.

In the back of the fancy Raymond Restaurant is Bar 1886, and it's my favorite place to get fancy drinks when I don't want to go downtown / echo park / silver lake anywhere further west (gross). Typical LA cocktail prices, and the bartenders (friendly!) come up with such delicious and seasonal drinks. strong drinks, outdoor seating, good times with your friends.

Five stars for the peanut butter cookie, six stars for the The Raymond Restaurant. More words to make this a review and fool the yelp bots.

I have loved the Raymond for 25 years. I brought my husband up there from Orange County - hadn't been there for four years, and was surprised by all the changes. I had reserved a table for my husband's 55th birthday, and told them when we made our reservation. I thought perhaps they might do something special, like a dessert with a candle. That's always a nice gesture, and Parkway Grill went all out when we went there last year with a birthday appetizer and full size dessert. I don't expect this, but it's just good customer service. We didn't get any acknowledgment of this special occasion last night. So yes, I was disappointed. Food was great, but I miss the old menu. The music wasn't really environment-appropriate for such a cozy restaurant. I don't like rock-n-roll when I'm eating by candlelight. However, the servers were very polite and accommodating.

love this place! its a little small but the ambiance is just great. it is a great place to take a date or just a great place to unwind and hang out with friends where you can actually have a conversation with them. the drinks are good and are seasonal so don't get too attached to your favorite drinks because you will likely find another one when they revamp the menu at the start of the season.

Pretty nice place with interesting drinks. Happy Hour is 5-7pm and you'll get a $2 discount on food and a few cheaper drinks. They were super slow when I arrived at 5:15 and they were having a team meeting or something and working on dry ice, making a lot of noise and not really giving us that much attention. Kinda ruined the ambiance a little. Service overall was average. I had the brown derby and a smoker's jacket as drinks, both were good and the quality overall is above average. I'd recommend the brown derby. For food, I had the olives, pork belly and yellowtail coller. The pork belly was pretty good, but needed to be a little crispier. The olives were pretty spicy and seemed a little hard. The yellowtail was pretty good, no complaints. Overall, good drinks and pretty good food for not too much money.
