Here is the second 3D model of a live Blacktip shark - this one captured with a single Canon G16 camera (shark was quite calm). Again, the sharks were released in good health.

Very excited to finally post our 3D live blacktip sharks - these were created using the Beastcam and a single camera (on a very calm shark) with the Shark Research at University of Miami program run by good friend and colleague Neil Hammerschlag. All sharks were released in good health - the whole process was quite quick.
We were able to get two good 3D models (considering these were live sharks on a rocking boat).

Many people worked hard to make this happen - special thanks to the Daily Planet for filming and supporting the segment - Robbie Roemer, Frank Gibson Hannah Jean Calich Natascha Wosnick Laurel Zaima Jake Jerome Stephen Cain Christine de Silva Julia Whidden Nick Perni and many others worked hard to make this happen (apologies if anyone has been left off) - also, special thanks to my awesome student Dan Daye for animating these models - and finally, thanks to my former students Dylan Briggs and Kasey Packard Smart for helping create the Beastcam in the first place - thanks guys!

The value of this technique can be seen in the differences between these two shark models I will post- one is clearly pregnant (guess which one!)- 3D models can reveal these differences, and Neil Hammerschlag and I and other colleagues are excited to explore this more quanitatively, and to expand these techniques into new realms.

Very excited to say that my book with Tim Higham - Animal Athletes by Oxford University Press - is now available for sale in the UK and Europe!  Those in the US will unfortunately have to wait 2 months before it ships, although pre-orders can be made now!  https://global.oup.com/academic/product/animal-athletes-9780199296552?cc=gb&lang=en&
