Perhaps he ought to have him go all the way down the hallway out of the camera's eye, in that case? #notthebrightestyankeemanagerever

The City of Angels Little League has been providing baseball & softball to At-Risk children in Los Angeles for 10+ years. When I was on the Board of Directors with CALL I spent sometimes as many as 5 hours per day begging for Los Angeles Parks and Recreation to allow us field time on baseball fields that were unused by any other groups. Due to a broken system and group of City "Officials" who were incentivized to keep outside groups off of their fields, I was told many times over that the fields we were requesting to use were already reserved. They were reserved for the "Parks and Rec Leagues", which didn't actually exist, but were formed and alotted field space so that they would receive the budget for that particular activity.

The Dodger's Dream Field, located smack dab in the center of C.A.L.L.'s league boundaries, was built by the Dodgers for leagues just like ours, but turned over to the City of Los Angeles Parks and Rec to manage. This state-of-the-art, real life dream field, was left nearly empty, with an apparent ghost program holding on to precious field space. In a month-long battle with Park Officials, I became so irate with the lies and avoidance tactics being used to fight off my requests that I pulled the Los Angeles Dodgers into the loop. Their VP of Community Involvement, while working with hands-tied, suggested to the city that they offer us space. The result, we were offered space alright. At a going rate of over 300% of what anyone else would have had to pay to use it.

And so it is that C.A.L.L. continued on to become dubiously known as the "Homeless Little League" in Los Angeles. Many times the lack of fundraising opportunities that a home field offers and lack of true identity has nearly resulted in the closure of a league that has helped THOUSANDS of at-risk kids, but through Founder/ President Franklin L. Ferguson and many dedicated Volunteers, it's hung around and continued its work. Finally, through a partnership with LAISD, City of Angels Little League has a chance to build a home field.

Now for the hard part- raising the money. Please check out the story and if so compelled, hit them up about possible partnerships, sponsorships, and fundraising possibilities. Or just spread the word. I've seen youth baseball do wonders for kids who really need wonders, and there are more of those per-capita in City of Angels Little League than I've seen in my entire life around the sport.
