STEEL PLATE VICTORY

A few years back the Motorcycle Council and the RMS developed a policy demanding that all steel plates MUST have a non-slip coating for the safety of motorcyclists and pedestrians.

Enforcing this policy with construction companies is a different matter.
Back in August, this plate was reported to Council as being non-compliant. The guilty parties were informed and brought to account.

If you come across any other non-compliant plates in NSW, please photograph them and report them directly to Barry Keogh bkeogh@cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au

In other states, report them to your State Road Authority.

MOTORCYCLE PARKING Alice Springs

With the Ulysses AGM in Alice Springs just around the corner, MCNetwork has surveyed the city for motorcycle parking spots. This council has been very proactive in utilising small spaces and ensuring that almost every street in the town centre has at least 2 bays.

Visit the Motorcycle Network website

and download the FREE smartphone apps for both Parking and Dealers and Workshops all over Australia.

Please share with any Ulysseans travelling to the AGM and we wish you safe travels.

About 3 years ago, City of Sydney Council put in a large parking area for motorcyclists.
As with any area, it was quickly filled up and the demand for more was immediate. No matter how much parking we get, there will always be a deficit.

The solution for motorcyclists was to simply expand into the whole area even though it was clearly marked with "No Stopping" signs.

Now here is the problem - for 3 years Council Rangers were tolerant and allowed us to get away with it. Then the crackdown came without any warning. Last week hundreds of bikes were booked.

It could have been an exercise in diplomacy but instead Council were adversarial and understandably, now being accused of "Revenue Raising".

Can YOU identify any other area around the CBD which we can lobby Council to turn into motorcycle parking which won't clash with the pedestrians?
