I will be playing for Team McAfee in the 3rd Annual Hockey for Heart Kitchener Tournament on January 28th & 29th at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Complex. Please consider donating to the Heart & Stroke Foundation in my name.

While the song is barely an actual Christmas song, the moment I hear Shane McGowan slur "It was Christmas Eve, babe. In the drunk tank, an old man said to me, 'won't see another one'", I know what will happen next. I'm instantly transported back to being 13 years-old and watching MuchMusic play this video (seemingly) hourly for the entire month of December while I was doing things like playing hockey, listening to music, playing video games and being a smart-ass weirdo. Twenty-two years later and I'm still doing all of those things; call me Consistent Chris, I suppose :)

I hope you enjoyed my list of Generation X Christmas songs. From Team Bellini, Merry Christmas! If you celebrate Chanukah instead, Chag Chanukah Sameach! If you celebrate something else or nothing at all, that's cool too. Regardless, I think all of the Earth's people can appreciate what a wise man once said - be excellent to each other! And Wyld Stallyns rule!

We're in the homestretch of the list of my favourite Genration X Christmas songs. You can't help but be warmed by this very honest holiday-themed love song by one of the best bands to have ever walked the face of this planet.

Along with XTC, Squeeze got into the Christmas spirit too...maybe a bit more so.

The small record collection of my 6 year-old self had a lot of XTC and Squeeze albums, thanks to my cousins. New wavers were Gen-X'ers too, so it all counts in my book.

To add a bit of levity to my list of Genration X Christmas songs, a video from a couple of years ago showing a house's Christmas lights synchronized to "Raining Blood" from one of the greatest albums ever recorded; Slayer's 'Reign In Blood'. Yes, I just associated Slayer with levity - it's a Christmas miracle!

It wouldn't be a Generation X Christmas without a song that spews angst. Infidelity and a Santa Claus costume; gather 'round the fire and listen to a (doubtful) holiday classic that the likes of Bing Crosby and Paul Anka wouldn't sing.

I got Dena into the Flaming Lips, but Mogwai are a hard sell for her. "Christmas Steps", like most Mogwai songs, has a meaningless title. So I'm including it solely for the fact that it has "Christmas" in its title and I love Mogwai. But like Mogwai's best songs, "Christmas Steps" starts sombre and slow but builds to a furious crescendo, only to retreat to a lull shortly after; that seems to sum up the holidays, doesn't it?

Mr. Waits' Christmas card recount of hope and aspiration that turns out to be a lie. A nice reminder to be thankful for what you have. And 'New Year's Day' from his "Bad As Me" album this year could be a fitting addendum.

I'd be remiss if I didn't include tracks from my favourite bands in my list of Generation X Christmas songs. After torturing Dena with Flaming Lips songs for so long, she's actually starting to like them. Wayne wrote a killer tune about releasing animals on Christmas, giving them freedom as their present. Expect nothing but wonderful weirdness.
