As part of my research for the book I came across this report by my mother when she was in high school (1940). A very good summary of Tad's early years so I thought I'd share it on the blog. Made a new page since it's so long. Even if you know about Tad you may enjoy reading this.

My hearty pioneer Grandmothers brought home dinner as well as cooked it (whether fish or pheasant)

People still use the method of communication that was named after my uncle (he was the Tad part of Tadoma).

Page 53 and in the appendices Pg 293, 327 are some of my relatives on my mother's side. My brother, who is into genealogy, has said for awhile that my family took care of Lincoln's mother during the Civil War, but this proves it. Augustus Chapman is a direct ancestor of my mother's father. W-O-W. Of course it will still cost me about $3 to pick up a mocha.

Not really substantive progress, but the first I've posted for a long time.

Discovered that the Cheesecake Factory has a low carb cheesecake. Feel like I've sinned and gone to heaven. Yes, I said that right. :)

Some things are universal -- disdain for politicians must be one of them.

In a country well governed, poverty is something to be ashamed of. In a country badly governed, wealth is something to be ashamed of. -- Confucius
One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors. - Plato
Society is produced by our wants and government by our wickedness. - Thomas Paine
In general, the art of government consists in taking as much money as possible from one class of the citizens to give to the other. - Voltaire

Ahem - voice of experience here....If you live in one of the areas that has had a wind event make sure you check your roof before it rains. I had to move out of a place under emergency conditions because the wind took off the roof and then it rained. So much rain came thru the roof that I could have taken a shower and washed my hair in the rain that came thru - even on the first floor. I was lucky to save any of my things the water damage was SO extensive and then there was the mold and slime that followed. Check your roof, don't wish you had.
