Have you heard??? Fireworks are legal in our state!

New Georgia fireworks law to benefit local warehouse

Jake’s Fireworks, a wholesale distributor based in Kansas, expects orders at its Wagener warehouse to spike in the next two weeks as the company prepares to open its first six “superstores” in Georgia by July 1, when a new state law allowing the sale of air bombs, rockets and Roman candles takes effect. Devon Krusich, director of digital marketing for Jake’s Fireworks, said each of the stores in the Atlanta, Athens and Macon regions will be supplied by the Wagener facility and that distribution could soon expand to retail locations in Richmond, Columbia, Burke and McDuffie counties. “Our plan is to just keep adding stores as soon as we can close on buildings,” Krusich said of Jake’s Fireworks expansion into Georgia. For years, Georgia residents in the Augusta area have had to cross into South Carolina to celebrate the Fourth of July or other special occasions. Krusich said Jake’s Fireworks is “aggressively looking” for existing commercial buildings it can purchase and repurpose in the Augusta region because “it is definitely an area that is set up well for us.” He said, however, residents will probably have to wait until after the Fourth of July before the company opens a store locally to take advantage of the peak season spanning from Labor Day to New Year’s. Permitting officials in Richmond and Columbia counties said they haven’t received an application for a fireworks business license, but said companies are showing interest. “I have received phone calls and had a gentleman come in last week with general questions about the process, but no one has submitted an application for an occupational tax certificate,” said Erin Hall, Columbia County’s licensing and permits manager. Hall said Development Services plans to meet Wednesday to review the process fireworks retailers must complete to receive permits. Robert Sherman, deputy director of Augusta Planning and Development, said the first step is for the company to pay a $5,000 fee and apply for a state license through the Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner’s office. “Once they have the state license, the company will apply for a business license,” he said. “At that time, the Fire Department will inspect the building for code compliance, and once it releases the building, the business license will be sold.” The Senate estimated that about 1,000 new jobs will be created in Georgia by the new fireworks stores, according to legislation Gov. Nathan Deal signed May 5. Krusich said he found that figure to be accurate. “Since Michigan legalized fireworks sales in 2012, we have opened eight buildings that operate from Memorial to Labor Day, and have more than 60 seasonal tent locations that sell products for the Fourth of July,” he said. Krusich said Jake’s Fireworks is planning large grand opening events and a safety day featuring local fire departments at each new location. The new law prohibits the possession of fireworks inside school zones, functions and buses. Source: http://chronicle.augusta.com/

If you want a hot shower don't stay at this hotel. My husband checked in first and had no hot water the first morning. He promptly complained and was told they had had a problem for a few days and someone would be out to fix it. (Lie #!) I arrived the next day and still not hot shower. I called the front desk and was told that no one had come out the previous day because there were a lot of events going on in the area. (Lie #2) We went out for the morning and when we got back I asked if the hot water problem had been fixed. We were asked if we were in a corner room, yes we were. We were told they often have no hot water in the corner rooms when there is a large demand for hot water but they never had any complaints of no hot water from the side rooms. I asked if we could switch rooms and they agreed. The next morning my husband got up over an hour early to get a hot shower, lucky him. I had not hot water again! I guess just because no one ever complained about no hot water on the side rooms doesn't mean there is not a problem with hot water for them DON'T STAY AT THIS HOTEL IF YOU WANT A HOT SHOWER! May daughter liked the waffles.

Let's just say that I've never made a mental note to rate a hotel before staying here. For the price, you cannot ask for anything more. The rooms were extremely clean and comfortable, designed with a craftsmen type feel throughout the suite and lobby. Everything felt nice and relaxing. Melissa, the breakfast lady, was very helpful and friendly. Just a great experience all throughout.

This was a perfect place to stay for Game Day weekend. If you don't want to drive and find a place to park, taxis drive through the parking lot to take you to and from the stadium. The room was clean, modern, and spacious. I will definitely make this my game day choice! UGA Alum from Fort Lauderdale.

I don't know where some of these people are staying but they cant be talking about the hotel I stayed in 4-12-14. The hotel itself is clean and the staff seem to be nice. The breakfast is ok not anything to write home about. The rooms are not quiet. You can hear your neighbor easily. And when someone leaves their room next to you it sounds like they are coming in to yours its so loud. But all of that aside the worst part is the beds. We have stayed at this Hotel for the last 5 years. Anytime we have a queen sized bed or larger the beds have literally been the worst most uncomfortable thing I have ever tried to sleep on. Horrible. We would have been better off to go out into the parking lot and sleep on the asphalt. My suggestion if you stay here is to get double beds because anything else and you may need to see a chiropractor when you leave.

We stay here about 4-5 times per year over the last three years and it is a nice hotel but the breakfast that used to be pretty good is almost non existent. The hot stuff was down to 1 case with about 6 sausage links and nothing else. There were a few stale things in the bakery case and no yogurt. Pretty lame compared to what it used to be. At least there is a McDonalds close. Everything else was OK.
