Something to keep in mind when posting on Google+
Google+ Feed Snippet: A 200 Character Sales Pitch
The first 200 characters of a G+ post are the most important, because they offer a chance to effectively communicate a branded message in a busy feed.

You may have noticed that when you include a link to your Google+ post, it displays a thumbnail image (if available), the web page's title and the URL of the link. It used to be standard practice for these added links to include a description, not so with Google+. Only a title and the URL. Providing an accurate description is left entirely up to you.

The onus of creating a rich description, increases the importance of the textual content you place within your G+ post and, more importantly, the order you place it in.

Let's stop for a moment and consider what Google gives us to work with, when displaying a Google Plus post in a users feed. To me, it resembles a "snippet" of information. When we calculate the characters available to us in the G+ feed snippet, it appears to be 4 lines of approximately 50 characters per line, for a total of 200 characters.

So, ideally you would place a Title of 50 characters, followed by a Description of 150 characters. WAIT A MINUTE ... Isn't that the Search Engine Optimization Meta data recipe for a Google search snippet? Ok, so I knew that earlier when I used the word "snippet." ;-)

With that being said, to increase the exposure of your branded information and have it displayed prominently to users in their feed, take the time to create a 50 character Title for your post and a carefully worded summary (description) that does not exceed 150 characters. All other information needed to be conveyed in the post, can follow the 200 character introduction.

That's not all. There is one more thing to consider. When your post is shared by someone else, you can expect to lose 100 characters from your 200 character introduction. Therefore, it is paramount that you place the most vital information in the first 100 characters of your of your branded message, to ensure an enticing and informative snippet in your audience's feed, even if the post is shared.

It's important to be honest and upfront with your customers, or else you may pay the price.
