I came across this video recently which is a time-lapse of the person driving from Seattle, WA to Maine. The video itself was pretty cool but the fact that a script was written to have the Droid X take a picture every 90 seconds was the pudding on the cake. Totally Awesome!
Seattle to Maine in 7 Days
I think this is an absolute necessity, not so much for us, the users adding the people, but for the people that we're adding. I believe it will provide more high profile people the confidence of joining this service by knowing that the information they post can be authenticated as had been generated by them and not from some idiot that thinks it will be funny to create a false account and post inaccurate, obscene or harmful material.
I'm glad to see it's finally rolling out. Yet another kudos for the Google team.
We’re starting to roll out verification badges on profiles so you can be sure the person you’re adding to a circle is who they claim to be. Check out the video below (or my profile) to see what these verification badges look like.
For now, we’re focused on verifying public figures, celebrities, and people who have been added to a large number of Circles, but we’re working on expanding this to more folks.
Thanks again for sending in your feedback!
Many celebrities and public figures are joining Google+, and if you’re like me, you want to be sure the person you’re adding to a circle is really who they claim to be.
Today, I’m happy to announce that we’re starting to roll out verification badges on profiles.
When you visit the profile of a celebrity or public figure, you’ll see a verification badge next to their profile name. This will help you easily determine which profiles are owned by real, verified people.
Here’s an example: In my profile on the top right, you’ll see a grey checkmark next to my name. When you mouse over it, you’ll see that this is a “verified name”.
You might be wondering how to verify your own name on Google+. For now, we’re focused on verifying public figures, celebrities, and people who have been added to a large number of Circles...but keep in mind that this is just the beginning. We’re working on expanding this to include more people in the future, so hang tight!
We hope this improvement helps you feel more comfortable adding people to your circles. Thanks for listening, I’ll see you on Google+!
I’m super excited about how the Google+ project brings the richness and nuance of real life sharing to software, and today we’re announcing our first step towards bringing this to your apps as well by launching the Google+ public data APIs.
These APIs allow you to retrieve the public profile information and public posts of the Google+ users, and they lay the foundation for us to build on together - Nothing great is ever built in a vacuum so I’m excited to start the conversation about what the Google+ platform should look like.
Please follow the link to the blog post to find out what exactly we’re launching and you can find the technical details on how to use this on our new developer site at http://developers.google.com/+
I’d also like to take a moment to introduce my team who will be joining me on working with our developer community (ie: you!) and answering any questions you may have about the Google+ platform on our discussion forums.
We’ll all also be doing a bunch of Hangouts over the next few days and beyond to talk to you directly and hear what you think of the +Platform as well as helping with any coding questions you may have, so make sure to add them to your Google+ developers circle!
Now let's see lots of re-shares on this post & let's get this party started!
Seriously though, it is pretty cool! :D
