Hello Daphne just popped in to send a quick  comment from Cold windy Denmark. loved reading about your book find. Dads Army is an old favorite of Mr France, he too will Watch all the replays. and like you I told hom that he's watched them all so many times he must know the script off by Heart. Like the pepper sauce recipe , I'll have to save it for future quick pasta meals. Enjoy your May day Holiday.
Good Morning to you, I love Tuesdays ..... because it is the day our sewing group meets. After a lovely morning spent catching up with each other and sharing our sewing projects, three or four of us head for the charity ...

Good Morning Barbara, I know you will be having fun even though it is cold and windy.... I have to tell you it has been the same here as well.
I'm pleased to hear that you are going to save the roasted red pepper sauce because it is really a simple sauce, especially when made with a jar of roasted peppers.
I hope the weather changes for you and that you have a sunny May Day Bank Holiday.
Best Wishes
Daphne

Hello Daphne, I've just read this Thursday post and guess what Mr France & I ate fot lunch today, yes ' Coronation Chicken ' well it was my variation. I'd  cooked a chicken the day before &  had the breasts to be used. Needing a quick easy peasy  lunch,  that was what I chose to do, and guess what I used to replace the missing Mango chutney ? Confiture Bonne  Maman Apricot .As the weather is outside eating temp.  I served it with a crisp green salad & a crusty baguette. We are both certainly on the same wavelength. keep these recipes coming.
Good Morning to you, Do you have a recipe, that as a young woman, you used all the time, but as time went by, and your cooking repertoire grew, the recipe was placed in the back of your cookery book and forgotten about.  ...

Good Afternoon Barbara, Well I never, fancy you making Mr France Coronation Chicken.... the recipe has not died.... it is alive and kicking and being made in your kitchen as well.
As much as I love cooking, I also like being able to make a meal, which does not take too long to prepare.
Oooh, I love Bonne Maman preserves, I buy them as well, they are very nice indeed.
How lovely to be eating outside.... I think it will be a while before that  happens here in my garden. The garden furniture has been cleaned, ready to be put in the garden and I cannot wait for warm summer days. I do love eating outside, it is so relaxing.... with maybe the odd glass of vino.....even better.
Have a lovely weekend Barbara.
Best Wishes to you.

Your childhood memories captured in sketches is so lovely, I'm sure your grandchildren will enjoy looking through your journals, so much better than photo albums. I loved seeing the old wood stove and water pump. I bet you didn't go in the lake for a bath  :) fantastic life for you.and to go back and not be disappointed even better.
We finally set off on midsummer morning in the camper car to find my childhood summer home.  We parked in a village about 7 kilometres away and got out the bikes to use for the last part which was down narrow country lanes...

Fancy you finding a new friend who your father already knew,  It's a small world. Great sketches recording your wonderful trip.
At last we set off to go to Norrkoping, the city of my birth where my parents had met and married while they were working there in 1946.  We found our campsite on the edge of the city in a lovely parkland setting by a rive...

A lovely trip and all recorded in your journal seen through your lovely sketches. I'm surprised you didn't see any beauty in the architecture in Denmark. Their main source of materials for building is brick, and it's usually the darker ones, but they use light  coloured ones for houses which are usually painted white, with a type of lime cement wash. I'm looking forward to part 2, as I've never visited Sweden. Are your sketches done in the pencils you usually use ?
I've just been reminded by a friend that I haven't posted any blogs about our journey to Sweden in 2012.  The main reason is that at the time I didn't have a blog and when I did get the blog started I was concentrating on ...

Your people sketching is fantastic, something I don't do. Sometimes I'm a bit adventurous and put the idea of the back of a person walking .

I've just come back from a visit to the hairdresser where I spent a couple of hours gossiping and laughing.  Sylvie has her own salon where she works hard styling ladies and men's hair down at the port opposite the bakery...

I do admire you for the discipline you give yourself, that's one thing I do not have, I'd be skipping a page if the paper wasn't to my liking. Enjoy your trip to England. We are off to Denmark next week to visit our son & his family. I thought I'd take the small sketch book you sent me, as it's easy to fit into a pocket & when I get the chance I'll try to do a sketch or two. :)
When I started this sketchbook way back in August last year I had no idea how long it would take me to complete.  I filled it with an assortment of papers of many different types from pastel to drawing in lots of colours. ...

Easy peasy meals, great when you're gardening. and roasted garlic with spaghetti  sounds great , I think that will be a meal we'll be having, thanks Daphne for reminding me, hadn't even thought of doing that, & Mr France loves it.. I  too am in the garden as much as In can, trying to catch up after the neglect my garden had last year. But i must say it's looking very colourful with all the lovely bulbs I planted in Autumn  now in bloom. So nice to hear you have warm sunshine, nothing better for lifting ones spirits. We've even been able to have a snooze in the reclining chairs in the afternoon. I love the warm weather. Enjoy it while it lasts.
Good Morning to you, Well I never, I really can't believe it. Do you remember last week, I mentioned that I was looking forward to sitting in the garden, with my face turned towards the  warm sunshine? Well, the 'wea...

Good Evening Barbara, I have a few easy meals which I can make in the summer time because as much as I love to cook, I also love enjoying the garden when the weather is warm.  Well, we had a fabulous week of weather, but now it is freezing.  My daughter lives in Hampshire and she said it was 25 degrees today whilst here it was 11.... quite a bit different.
Oh, I love afternoon snoozes when the weather is warm.... there is nothing like relaxing in a chair and drifting away.
I just know your garden is going to look beautiful Barbara..... it always does.
Best Wishes to you.

Hello Valerie
A well planned trip, full of of lovely  sketches which captured the beautiful countryside so well, better than any photos.
When I was planning this trip of a lifetime I did a lot of research into towns and campsites so that we could travel easily without worrying where we would be staying. I booked each one in advance too as I thought that bei...

Who could not feel happy seeing your lovely pictures especially listening to Doris Day's chirpy song an oldey but  fun. I used to copy her hairstyles when I was in my teens. oops ! giving secrets away.  It's grey and cold drizzly rain here in France.
Look forward to seeing your paintings of the Ranunculars.
I purchased lots of lovely flowers to inspire me to paint. Now here's some sunshine songs that will make you smile all day. Daffodils, aren't they the happiest flowers? Sunday was such a glorious day...I didn't get as ...

The Doris Day show was one of my favorites.  I used to love seeing San Francisco views from her home in the show.  Even if it's rainy in France, it's still a gorgeous day.

Hello Daphne.I loved  your story of making chocolate eggs for your daughters, I remember it so well I only ever did it once. I had a friend who would never buy Easter eggs she always made hers, so  wanting to seem like a really good Mum I did the same as you. I'm sure it took twice as much chocolate as the instructions on the packet said, probably because I made so much mess and ended up licking my fingers  so much. I too only did it the once. Now , do  I remember  Edmundo Ros. ?  I certainly do remember his music. so that's showing our age Daphne.  Your Easter brunch, sounds very tempting,  but we will probably be having the French Cornu. it's a brioche type bun, very popular in our area. Not sure if it's the same all over France  !  but give me a good Hot Cross Bun any day. Now that's got me thinking, I might even make my own this year. My two teenage French grandsons love them, I dare not tell their father..  Enjoy your weekend.
Good Morning to you, Isn't it amazing how quickly Easter seems to be creeping up on us and like me, I feel sure your thoughts are turning towards your Easter traditions.  I was thinking last night about how we used to ...

Good Afternoon Barbara, So you tried making Easter eggs as well..... do you think we were trying to be the perfect mothers.  I think I stopped making them because they were quite time consuming and Natasha and Danielle really did not know the difference.....I think it was more about how I  felt as a mother, I really felt I should at least give it a go.
Ha Ha, yes I know,  Edmundo Ros, really is from way back when, but I love his music, if I feel a little low, I play his Latin music and he always cheers me up. Did you know, I read that he lived to the grand age of 101 years.
Ooh a brioche bun sounds a lovely alternative for Easter, but I have to agree a nicely toast Hot Cross Bun is lovely, especially with a cup of coffee.
Have a lovely week, I hope the weather is being kinder to you.  Here we are having all four seasons in one day, sunshine, snow, and rain.... it's freezing.
Best Wishes as always.
Daphne
