Premiums for Medicare Part D plans are to remain steady, but there's more to plan costs than monthly premiums. It's good news that the deductible will be lower for 2014 Part D plans, but I would like to see historical data on average cost-sharing amounts for drugs as well.

It makes sense that overall cardiac procedures would lower in a managed care setting when cost containment is encouraged. The regional differences, as pointed out, seem to be driven by supply and demand. A kind of "build it and they will come scenario". It would be interesting to see if there is really any recognizable increase in heart disease in the regions with higher utilization or if availability and marketing are driving the trend.

I wonder if the release of doctor-specific Medicare claims information will do little more than give different factions more fodder for spin. Any data can be reinterpreted and spun to make an argument... Medicare claims information will be no different.
