The Kurdistan region of Iraq is at times described by the Kurdistan Regional Government and outside observers as the “Other Iraq,” that is, a place that enjoys relative stability, security, economic development, political pluralism, and a margin of freedom for civil society.

This may be true, but this assessment fails to recognize key parts of the story, says Kawa Hassan.
