People asked how I photographed the "blood moon" and then created the composite. I just wrote a quick blog post to explain how I did it. Enjoy!

Cool... I had a similar idea except I wanted to use the intervalometer in Magic Lantern. Unfortunately it was pouring rain here and we didn't see a thing... maybe I'll be lucky enough to capture October's eclipse.

For those of you interested in digital workflow. A couple of weeks ago I was interviewed by Joseph Linaschke for his ApertureExpert site. We wanted to compare Apple's Aperture program to Camera Bits' Photo Mechanic program. It was really interesting. They have posted the first of three videos from the rather long interview. Check it out at:

Recently I interviewed Olympic photographer Jeff Cable about his Photo Mechanic based editing workflow. His perception, along with nearly every other photographer at the Olympics, was that Photo Mechanic is hands-down the fastest way to import your photos. While nearly everyone accepts that it’s quicker to use Aperture or Light Room to edit your selects, both have been shunned as importing too slowly. Aperture made massive improvements to import ...

After more than a year of waiting, I finally got my new Mac Pro. I spent a lot of time planning for the transition from the old Mac Pro to the new one. And hopefully, this will help others make the same switch. All of this is on today's blog at:

Now that I have returned home from Russia, the number one question from everyone is, "How did you like the Sochi Olympics?" And as I answer this question each time, it forces me to think back and analyze the 3 weeks in Russia.

Jeff, thanks for sharing your experiences, both good and bad. Successfully adapting to a changing or unexpected environment takes talent and patience. I especially appreciated how you described each photo, and the thinking that went into very specific camera settings. Very helpful info. Thanks again!

It is hard to believe it, but after 3 weeks of shooting so many different sporting events, the 2014 Winter Olympics has come to a close. But, as I promised you in the last blog entry, I still have one more sporting event to show you. Check out the photos and recommended camera settings for the 4 man bobsleigh on the blog at:

This past weekend I photographed my first Bar Mitzvah since returning from the Olympics. As I spent the day capturing photos, I realized that shooting a local event like this is similar to photographing the Olympics. The goal is to tell a story with the photos. And, no matter what I am photographing, my goal is to have fun and find unique photos for my client.

I wrote this blog to explain my thought process in setting goals for a shoot, and how I execute to make them a reality.

Check it out at:

Now that the 2014 Winter Olympics are over, I thought I would tell you all about some of the rules and restrictions we had here at the Games. People might think that we have freedom to shoot wherever we want...
