Stamped concrete is also commonly referred to as textured concrete or imprinted concrete. Many different patterns are possible with stamped concrete, many of which convincingly replicate other popular building materials such as wood, tile, stone, flagstone, slate and brick. With the wide assortment of patterns and colors possible, stamped concrete is considered to be one of the most versatile outdoor paving materials available. Popular applications include pool decks, driveways, sidewalks, walkways, stairs, entries and patios.

Your concrete driveway is a combination of aggregates (a mix of sand, gravel and crushed stone) and glue. When these ingredients are mixed together with water, they bind together to form a rock-like slab. The good news this slab will continue to harden as it ages. The bad news is that without these simple maintenance tips, your driveway could begin to crack and develop a scaly appearance. Scoring is a simple way to create interesting geometric patterns on a concrete slab. Score lines can be added to a freshly poured slab using a groover tool, or after the concrete has hardened using a circular saw or grinder with a diamond-tipped concrete-cutting blade. Score lines 1/16-inch to ¼-inch deep. The lines can be stained a contrasting color, or left natural.

A detailed plan allows the concrete contractor to more accurately estimate the cost and length of time involved for the installation. First you must decide what type of work needs to be done and what type of decorative contractor is required. For instance, if remodeling your kitchen includes removing the old countertops and sink, but also needs the walls finished with a decorative concrete skim coat , you’ll need someone who is familiar with not only decorative concrete countertops but also decorative concrete skims or wall finishes.

Having a plain, flat surface can be boring. If you prefer to spice it up, you should consider adding concrete stamping to your slab. Stamped concrete resembles natural stone or brick and can add dimension and class to the exterior of your home. Whether you want something that resembles slate, cobblestone, or another look in between, stamped concrete can give you exactly what you want.
