Unlike most people's bucket lists mine consists of more restaurants than things that must be done. Probably because I've had a pretty exciting adventurous life so far and near death experiences aren't uncommon. I think every foodie dreams of the day they can eat at the best restaurants all over the globe trying the best and most interesting foods from the best and most famous chefs. I am not on the level where I can speak intelligently about places I've only heard about on TV from chef's and food critics, but one can save up their money and pay the $270 fixed menu price per person and eat at perhaps the most feasible elite restaurant on the west coast. I'm sure there are places in San Francisco that are just as nice, just as good, but to be mentioned in the same breath as the international superstars is worth a destination dinner. When researching French Laundry years ago I was surprised to see the slew of highly rated places in Yountsville, who I imagine has a small population, but a dozen 4/+ yelp starred places and of those dozen probably 10K in reviews. Holy crap. When did Yountsville become the French food Mecca? First off your in wine country with Napa and Sonoma so close they have a pretty cool rule here that you can bring your own wine, but it's $75 per bottle and limit of 1 bottle per 2 people. Not bad I guess if you MUST go with your own versus their own, which their menu of wines is 100+ pages. Trust me you won't be making things easy and I suggest looking at this list long before you come here because why waste the experience flipping through a book. 9 course French dining is not heavy so I decided ahead of time to go with a Chardonnay because I put the "hard on" in charddonay..... Russian River Brewing is famous for the invention of the double IPA, so I went with a Kistler at a modest $140. If I recall it's a blend from 2 vineyard, 1 form the coast and 1 from the mountains. Subtle, fruity, a little strong and I kind of had this strange expectation that the more expensive the wine the stronger, obviously not the case, but anyhow. To keep this review under the limit I'm not going to go through each item because so much of the dinner is about the experience. The Garden the décor, the ambiance, the service, etc. Reservations only, jackets are required, do your research on the menu, wine long before coming here if your travelling as I did from San Diego. The garden is beautiful, not in the overly ornate way, but like a bit of the Louvre was transported here. Classic lines and calming. You learn quickly not to be too boisterous here as being loud in any capacity is frowned upon. Service is amazing, literally everything is taken care of, immediate, personal servant level, but cold and polite. The décor reminds me a bit of a French mansion with all the quietness and separation, each room is it's own separate world. Oysters and Pearls which has been a staple since forever uses mother of pearl to not affect the taste of the caviar. Simply amazing, very briny. I could have totally had this to finish the meal off instead of dessert which I found lacking. Diver scallops were good, sweet, plump. The famous French dish of Foie gras and duck are both served depending on the seasonal menu. As most people haven't had fois gras I learned that in the pate form is the lowest quality and that a mousse is the preferred delivery method with another meat. The duck is superb, I've had good duck and I've ruined it myself so having something so good is a testament. The dry aged ribeye was actually a disappointment, the only one. I was hoping for more fat and when you have ribeyes that big the sear must be perfect as I like mine very rare. I'm a trady with my steak in that regard. The experience is like nothing I've ever had and worth the money and wait because I now feel initiated into the life of a real foodie

Amazing place, I can't even describe in words how awesome this place is. The service was so on point. As soon as the last person placed his/her fork down the next course came in. The service was also such a pleasure even to my nephew who was 10 years old at the time. He was laughing and had an amazing time. Yes, this is a pricey place for the food, but the time you'll be enjoying is priceless for this unforgettable experience

Definitely a fine dining experience of a lifetime. came here for the six course meal and it was definitely amazing. Ingredients used it was of high quality service was impeccable and the taste is surprising with a twist.

I wanted to dislike this place. I wanted to call it overrated. I couldn't do it though. The food and the service at French Laundry stand alone as separate and unforgettable memories in my mind. I won't go into details on the food as the menu changes quickly, but it is essential that you end the night with coffee and donuts - they will blow your mind. Reservations weeks in advance of your trip are highly recommended, but a family member reported getting a table for two as a walk-in due to a last minute cancellation. It never hurts to try.

My husband and I visited The French Laundry April 2015 and were thoroughly disappointed. We love all kinds of food and neither of us are picky eaters. However, this meal was a complete and total rip-off. It is an OVERRATED TOURIST TRAP and we left very frustrated that no one warned us!! I advise you to save yourself the heartache and the $$$$...not worth it!!

My oldest friend took me there for my birthday. The setting is quiet and you're made to feel welcomed and very comfortable. We had the tasting menu meaning we didn't specifically order dishes. From the first bite we wanted to ask if we could have that served for the whole meal. Then, as another dish came, again, we wanted to have MORE, and so on. Every bite...EVERY bite is unbelievably delicious. What a wonderful experience. We are so fortunate to have such a place to go to.

Where it all started. One man's dedication and the world has been his stage ever since. "The fish should be kept upright in swimming position to maintain best texture..." Wow. Been an avid fan and cannot be more pleased with our dinner at his beautiful establishment. Truly remarkable standards delighting our palate. Thank you, Chef Thomas Keller

Snobby restaurant, with a carefully choreographed service. The food is good, but no where near exceptional, to warrant the almost $300 menu per person. I can name at least three Los Angeles restaurants which are a lot better than this place. In my opinion is not worth a visit unless you are in the area.
