It looks suspiciously like a pine cone or a sunflower. I wonder if they have anything in common ;-) Perhaps you can add a theme and some art to it to it by making it actually look like a pine cone and or sunflower.

I also wonder if you could go a step further and make transcendental gearing, perhaps by exploiting the circumference to diameter ratio somehow.

Until it flies into a tree at the end :) I've since gotten better though.

Am I correct in thinking that you only have to solve the edge with the line on it to get it open? Also do the other treasure cubes have the same 'exploit' where you can open it without completely solving it or is there an extra mechanism I'm missing?

Oskar, I wonder if you could combine this puzzle with the spinout puzzle to make an exponential cube?

+klankbot I think it might be relatively easy by adding shapes along the outside pieces to make sure the top matches the second layer, and perhaps slightly harder but still possible to make sure that the pieces in the top two layers are lined up correctly, but it seems like it'd be a real challenge to ensure that the entire puzzle is solved, especially in this puzzle.
