Leslie and I spent another week in Alaska, saw a few wild bears catching salmon in the river. The bears were literally everywhere, and we got some good photos. We also went horse back riding, and our tour guide brought a gun just in case we encountered a bear who wanted to fight. Fortunately, all the bears were very friendly.

+Leslie Lei went from "this is scary shit" to "let's take it home" in just a couple minutes.  Feeling amused with Leslie at Sanborn County Park.

Spoiler: Yes, they're real!  The glowing light is a natural result of the extreme heat.  When sending texts to my friends asking for their assistance, all they knew is that we would be cutting steel and that there would be lots of sparks, but they showed up anyway!  The whole thing was a ton of fun.  Special thanks to my Stanford & Berkeley friends for being so receptive to my idea and jumping into the spark stream with me.

Archery all weekend.  Julie and Lauren came too!  There is something magical about exploring the woods just before dark.

I've always said that if you're not doing something you love, you're doing it wrong.  Time is too precious to waste.  I went back to campus /w dog & quantum book to relax and study - it was amazing!

Grab a friend and go do something you love!

What would you do with a dozen roses?  My idea: Walk up to random girls on campus, and hand them a rose, with no explanation whatsoever.  People were surprisingly receptive to it.  I got everything from laughs and smiles to hugs and thank-you's.  And it brightened up everyone's day!  #greatideas

Turning down fantastic offers from Google and Facebook was one of the hardest decisions I've ever made.  I love both companies, and I'd be incredibly honored to work at either one of them.  That said, I'm having a great time at Palantir (writing counter-terrorism software for three-letter government organizations that I can't mention by name).  Palantir has a fantastic engineering team, and the company will do anything to ensure the engineers are happy and productive.  Free food, laundry, a gym, on-site massages, etc.  They even have showers and beds; there is literally no reason to leave.  My office (photographed below) has an amazing computer, whiteboards, and a nice leather couch.  I can't wait to get back to work Monday morning!

We finally arrived in Sacramento!  First thing on the agenda: a steak dinner for the three of us.
