Been there a few times over the years and it’s a tough course for an average golfer. You’ll have plenty of chances to be in the woods or the river/ponds. If you drive it straight, you’ll do well here. Some holes require a perfect tee shot else you are in trouble and that's a lot to ask from an average person. Also if you happen to catch the edge of the woods, you probably ended up in heavy brush or rocks making recovery very difficult. On one hole it is a downhill shot to a green which slopes severely front to back where a well hit iron on the green can’t hold the green which is not fair. Greens had a few bare spots and were a little shaggy. Tee boxes appear to be randomly selected amid tall grass, dirt and tons of divot marks everywhere. Bunkers were hard and hardly any sides so one person in our group putted from within two bunkers. I know cost pressures are at play and lucky this course still exists and for the price, it is not bad at all. A real challenge. But it is nowhere near the nicest course around as some indicated. There are many better places to play in the area for not much more money and if you care to venture out, Belmont Lakes (previously Ford’s Colony ) course in Rocky Mount for the same money is a super course! Check it out.

Greens were terrible. Bare in spots and the cups hadn't been changed in days. It was the weekend and there was dead grass hanging in the hole and sticking up around the edges of the hole. Won't go back.

the course is in great shape the greens are fast and smooth i played there in feb 2012 and i was impressed at how much the course has turned around sine last year anyone who has not played there in a while should give it another shot u will not be let down it is well worth the money i think it may be one of the nicer golf courses around for the money

Played there on May 21 2011 this course is not worth $35. The greens are in horrible shape they are full of fungus and any bare spots on the greens are just filled with sand so make sure you take your sand wedge with you when you go to the green. If they didn't have a tournament that day i would have went back in and asked for my money back. Seriously if you want to play golf in the Louisburg area spend the extra money on gas because you will be disappointed if you go to this course. Go to Bull Creek musch better course.

Honestly, this is one of the better courses in the Raleigh area. The course is very challenging. The majority of the greens are elevated and are very fast. Water comes into play on several holes. The week day price of $23 to ride is a great value. Highly recommend to those who are looking for a course that will make you think.

This course is a hidden Gem, it did have a tough summer a couple of years ago, but it really has bounced back. The greens are in great shape and the layout is challenging but fair. Really a great place to play a relaxing round of golf!

normally, i play only courses listed in the Golf Digest ratings guides. so the river course turned out to be a pleasant surprise for my wife and me when we were driving nearby on a saturday afternoon in late july. although unrated, it is a scenic layout by the side of a river in a forest. at the moment, fairways are in excellent condition, and the bunkers are playable despite recent heavy rains. four sets of tees, ranging from 4,434 to 6,391 yards. according to the pro shop, the greens have recovered a lot over the past two years. although we noticed there were still bare spots on some greens, the pins were placed such that they did not affect play. greens were slow, probably due to trying to preserve them during the recent heat wave. all in all, a very pleasant experience.
