It can be a bit of a chore to look after your feet, particularly when they’re not on show most of the time.  However with sandal season upon us there’s no excuse for cracked heels, neglected nails and #bunions.  #longbeachpodiatry   #longbeachpodiatrist   #bunionsurgerylongbeach

A study has found that it takes just one hour, six minutes and 48 seconds before the average woman’s #feet begin to feel the agony of being strapped into #highheels.   #longbeachpodiatry   #longbeachpodiatrist   #longbeachbunionsurgery

Q: Is Bunion Surgery Painful?

A: Bunion surgery is not particularly more painful than other surgeries. Bunion surgery can lend itself to increased pain post-operatively because the foot is below the level of the heart and blood can rush to the area, causing a throbbing feeling. Moderate postoperative swelling can aggravate the nerves, causing pain. Most patients find that the postoperative discomfort is tolerable with pain medication and a program dedicated to pain relief.

"Here are some general suggestions to try for reducing the pain of bunions."

* Wear shoes that fit well and have room around the toe. If you are buying new shoes ask to have your feet measured.

* Avoid wearing high-heeled shoes or shoes with pointed toes.

* Buy small pads to place over the bunion — your pharmacist will advise you.

* Try foot exercises.

* Paracetamol or ibuprofen may help to ease the pain.

A change in your feet – whether on the skin, nails, or even how they feel – can be the first sign of a potentially serious problem that, if caught early, could save your life.  #longbeachpodiatry #longbeachpodiatrist
