Never pay full price for fabulous

One of the very few shots that came out exposed enough to recover, from a recent photowalk with +Nigal Raymond and +Swee Oh while Nigal was in town. I paid a steep price for not recognizing my M2's underexposure issue early enough. For this shot, I had to tweak the tone curve quite a bit to tease out the midtones and highlights.

I'm still waiting for the camera to be fixed. Let me tell you, I've never jonesed so hard for a camera before, it's like I have a constant nervous itch in my palms :P Film addiction is real! #FilmAddiction

Shutter trouble

I began suspecting that something wonky was happening with the M2's shutter after developing two rolls in a row with severely underexposed frames.

After the first roll, I blamed myself, thinking I was incorrectly metering. But after carefully metering the second roll and still getting underexposed frames, I figured something was up with the shutter.

I did what any photog would do: mourn the loss of those shots.

Then I decided to put the shutter to the test. I repeated the same shot for five frames all properly metered but adjusting the shutter by a stop each shot and compensating the f-stop accordingly. For instance, at 1/60-sec, I used f/11, and at 1/125-sec, I used f/8, etc.

As you can see, the faster the shutter, the more underexposed the shot is, even when opening the aperture accordingly. Oh despair!

So I took the camera in for servicing. The repairman used a special device to measure the shutter performance and said, "Yep, you need a CLA. Your shutter is all messed up." Lol, oh well. I now have to slog through the waiting game while it gets CLA'd. :P
